Příkosice – Nature, Rocks and Castle History

Příkosice between the Brdy forests and the railway line

Příkosice lies on the edge of the Brdy forests and along the railway line from Rokycany to Nezvěstice. As a result, a forest-dominated landscape meets a clearly recognisable transport link here. Thanks to good road connections and, in particular, the railway connection, Příkosice is a destination for trips and recreation for people from larger cities. If you are looking for accommodation for a range of day-trip plans, you can distinguish between nature experiences, historical exploration and arriving by train when planning your options.

Homberk: Castle, history and distinctive geology

Příkosice is historically connected with Homberk Castle and is first mentioned indirectly in this context in 1368. A notable date in the castle’s history is 1406: in that year, Homberk Castle was besieged and captured by royal troops. The castle was built on two Buližník outcrops located close to each other and connected by a low saddle. Its structures probably consisted predominantly of wood. Homberk thus combines historical tradition with a landscape whose geological composition itself becomes a subject of discovery.

Příkosická skála and the rocks on the Homberk ridge

The Homberk geological locality illustrates the cooling of lava during a submarine outpouring. In a broader context, it represents volcanism associated with a submarine eruption and hydrothermal activity with concentric stromatolitic structures. For visitors, this geological history is particularly vivid at Příkosická skála: it consists of several scattered Buližník rock formations up to 18 metres high on the rocky Homberk ridge.

The climbing area has fixed top-rope anchors at the climbing rocks; alternatively, belaying from trees is possible. This specific feature distinguishes the rocky landscape from a mere viewpoint and makes it interesting for travel planning that combines nature observation with active experiences.

On foot from the station and along the cycling route

The Příkosická skála climbing area can be reached on foot from Příkosice railway station via the path by the former JZD, past the cemetery, over Kuželkovic vršek (556 m) and along forest paths to Homberk. The reference to the former JZD is part of the traditional route description and does not refer to a current operation. For cyclists, the long-distance CT 352 cycling route – the Inner Circuit of the Region – is also relevant: it passes through Příkosice or includes Příkosice among the municipalities concerned.

A historical detail in the village

On 1 February 1825, a fata morgana occurred near Příkosice by Rokycany. The village also has a statue of Saint Anthony of Padua.
