Discover Město Touškov
Město Touškov combines protected history with a variety of opportunities for active days. Highlights include a designated heritage conservation area, historical buildings and memorial sites, as well as a cycle path to Bdeněves along the Mže. There is also a recreation zone by the pond with facilities for children and teenagers. A separate mountain bike trail leads through the forest and gorge and is designed for cross-country riding.
History in public spaces
The protected heritage conservation area of Město Touškov was designated by Decree No. 476/92 Coll. of the Czech Ministry of Culture. Among the notable historical landmarks is the present-day Church of St. John the Baptist, built in 1777–1778. The Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist is the parish church of Město Touškov.
The Trinity Monument stands on Dolnà náměstà and was erected in 1723 by the sculptor Karel Legát. The Baroque rectory is also part of the town’s architectural history. It was built in 1746 as a summer residence for the abbots of Kladruby. The church, monument, and rectory thus represent different historical points of reference: a religious building, a monument in the square, and a Baroque building formerly used as a summer residence.
Around 20 gravestones or gravestone fragments have been preserved in the Jewish cemetery in Město Touškov. The oldest legible gravestone was found in the cemetery in the 1930s and bears the year 1543. It is therefore older than the Trinity Monument from 1723, the rectory from 1746, and the church dating from 1777–1778. In public spaces, commemorative plaques permanently installed in the pavement or on public squares provide additional historical orientation. They feature reliefs of the buildings depicted and brief historical explanations for visitors. The plaques have thus become a permanent part of the town’s public space. During a guided town tour, the first ten commemorative plaques at historically significant buildings were ceremonially unveiled.
Pond, Mže, and two cycling profiles
The recreation zone by the pond offers fitness equipment for adults, two large trampolines for children and teenagers, and an agility course.
For cyclists, a cycle path connects Město Touškov with Bdeněves and runs through the landscape along the Mže. Between Město Touškov and Bdeněves, it connects to cycle route No. 37 and is fully lit. The separate Touškovská Rokle mountain bike trail leads through a gorge in the middle of a forest, is designed for cross-country riding, and features technically demanding, rough sections. The cycle path runs through the landscape along the Mže, while the mountain bike trail runs through the forest and gorge.
