Kunějovice – Cultural Heritage and Paths through the Landscape

Kunějovice combines documented history with a distinctly agricultural landscape. Historic buildings, a cycling route running through the village and a marked hiking trail connect cultural history with outdoor activity. At the same time, the character of the village remains closely linked to fields, forest edges and the Nekmířský stream. Historical Traces in Kunějovice

Kunějovice has been documented since 1269, when Miloslav of Kunějovice was mentioned. Another notable historical detail is the “old” Kunějovice Castle, built in the 1690s. Another distinctive feature is the former school in Kunějovice No. 28. It is now used as the municipal office and is protected as an immovable cultural monument under registration number 106087. Its current use and historical status should be considered separately: the building is documented as a monument, but this does not automatically mean that it is open to the public.

The Chapel of St. Anne is also part of the village’s history. It was consecrated on 25 July 1937. Together with the first documented mention, the castle and the protected former school building, it creates a clear historical context without reducing Kunějovice to a single structure.

Cycling and Hiking between the Village and the Countryside

The 60-kilometre “Plaské údolí” cycling route passes through Kunějovice and runs between Dvůr Slatina and Lhotka.

A blue-marked hiking trail runs from the southern edge of the area across road III/2046 into the municipality of Kunějovice. From there, it heads north into a forest complex, where it leaves the area again. Its precise route also makes the trail relevant when choosing accommodation: depending on whether you are planning a hike through the southern part of the village or the adjoining forest section, it provides different reference points for planning your day.

The Hracholusky Reservoir, a body of water suitable for swimming, is located near Kunějovice. The neighbouring municipality of Nekmíř is also home to Nekmíř Castle. It originated as a 14th-century fortress, was later converted into a castle and is now designated as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Its current condition is considered critical.

Kunějovice is currently accessible by bus. The “Plaské údolí” cycling route, the blue-marked hiking trail and the village’s historical features each offer a different focus.
