Úterý between Baroque architecture, crafts and trails

Úterý can be discovered through historic buildings, regional crafts and paths into the surrounding area. If you would like to combine culture, crafts and walks during your stay, the highlights include a Baroque church, a chapel on a hill, an educational trail, a carbonated spring and the remains of a former brickyard.

Baroque buildings and regional crafts

Úterý is home to the Baroque Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, which was consecrated in 1698. The central building has an oval floor plan, a tower on the façade and a richly decorated interior. Above Úterý, a Baroque Chapel of Saint Wenceslas was also built on a hill in 1747. The two buildings give a tour of the town different accents: the church's elaborate interior architecture is contrasted here with the chapel's elevated location.

Another special feature is Úterská keramika. Original functional ceramics with Art Nouveau elements are made there. During the summer months, you can take part in workshops in the studio and try out various artistic techniques. This also makes the visit interesting for families looking for a practical, creative experience in addition to viewing historic buildings.

Educational trail, circular route and excursions into the surrounding area

The Městečkem Úterý educational trail is about 1.5 kilometres long. The first seven stations form a circular route that begins at a square near the town hall. Three outer stations encourage hiking or cycling trips in the nearby area. This allows you to organise your visit to the town in different ways: you can focus on the circular route and its stations or view the outer points as starting points for further routes.

The final information board on the educational trail introduces the valley of the Úterský potok. From the southern side of Úterý, you can walk along its banks to the Hracholusky Reservoir. This suggestion extends the educational trail with a route connecting the stream and the reservoir, without turning the two excursion ideas into a single circular route.

Spring and brickyard remains

The Úterská uhličitá kyselka is a carbonated spring first mentioned in 1693. It lies 2.2 kilometres to the left of the road to Teplá. Anyone interested in former industrial sites can also visit the remains of the former Haidlovy cihelny brickyard. These include a factory chimney just over 20 metres high and the ruins of a kiln. From a village pond in Olešovice, a convenient forest path leads for about half a kilometre to the brickyard remains.
