Chocomyšl – Culture, Ponds and Walking Trails
Accommodation in Chocomyšl
Chocomyšl combines small historical discoveries with landscape experiences that can be enjoyed in different ways: a short break by the pond, walks through nature or a longer bike tour for experienced cyclists. Anyone planning a trip with cultural details and physical activity will find a place here with its own distinctive character and various options for planning the day.
Historical Traces in Chocomyšl
The hunting pavilion “Kuchyňka” is particularly striking. This small work of garden and landscape architecture was built in 1825 as part of the Chudenice hunting landscape. It is a single-storey masonry building with a regular hexagonal floor plan. Its original function was varied: the pavilion served as a resting place for walks and hunts, as well as an open-air kitchen during hunting events. “Kuchyňka” therefore represents not only a single historic structure, but also the former connection between landscape, leisure and hunting culture.
Another historical landmark can be found in the village square. A reconstructed statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1708 stands there. The former Chocomyšl château is also part of the village’s history; it was later used for agricultural purposes. In addition, part of the Chudenicko landscape monument zone extends along the southeastern edge of the administrative area. These various historical elements give Chocomyšl a cultural profile without reducing the place to a single building.
Ponds, Park and Trails for Different Days
Chocomyšl lies in the valley of the Merklínka stream. A central park with a children’s playground is located at Chocomyšlský Pond and can be used for a short break. The place can be used for a short break when an excursion is meant to include some rest along the way. An oak avenue runs along the pond’s dam, giving time spent by the water a clear connection to the surrounding landscape.
The Žďár educational trail runs along both Kvapil Ponds. Local tradition connects these ponds with Jaroslav Kvapil’s libretto for the opera “Rusalka”. Anyone who would like to take in not only the landscape but also regional stories during a walk can include this connection in their exploration. Walks in nature are mentioned in Chocomyšl as an opportunity for a short break; you can therefore keep your stay fairly peaceful or combine it with other activities.
Cycling and Planning Your Journey
For more active days, the approximately 55 km-long Chudenice cycling circuit passes through Chocomyšl. It is intended for experienced cyclists. You should take the route length into account when planning your day if you intend to include Chocomyšl in a bike tour. Public bus routes stop in Chocomyšl. When looking for a hotel or other accommodation, it is therefore worthwhile to decide in advance on the mix of cultural discoveries, walks, pond landscapes and cycling you want. This makes it easier to assess which location and travel rhythm suit your plans.
