Discover Bělá nad Radbuzou

Bělá nad Radbuzou lies at the confluence of the Radbuza and Bezděkovský potok rivers. The town combines historical landmarks with a landscape that you can explore along paths, at viewpoints and through the river valley. The riverside setting brings together water, paths and historical sites, offering different perspectives on the same place. Particularly characteristic are Bělá Fortress, the Baroque Bridge over the Radbuza and the Pohořelec viewpoint.

Fortress, Bridge and Sacred History

Bělá Fortress was built around 1614 by Wolf Josef Lamingen von Albenreuth in the Renaissance style. It is protected as a cultural monument and was declared a cultural monument by the Czech Ministry of Culture. After the fortress ceased to serve as the estate owner's residence, it was used as housing for administrative staff. Its history includes its construction as a Renaissance building, its period as the estate owner's residence, its use by administrative staff and its current function with an information centre. Today, the reconstructed fortress houses, among other things, an information centre.

Another prominent structure is the Baroque Bridge over the Radbuza. It was probably built in 1723–1725 based on the model of Prague's Charles Bridge and is decorated with six Baroque statues of saints. The bridge is used by pedestrians and cyclists. This means that the historic structure can also be included in an exploration on foot or by bicycle without reducing its cultural significance to merely crossing it.

The Church of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows dates back to a chapel built in Bělá in 1696–1697 and was later expanded. After a fire in 1826, it was rebuilt and enlarged. Near Bělá nad Radbuzou are also the Kocovy kameny, distinctive stone cultural monuments featuring rocks carved with inscriptions by merry hunting parties.

Panoramas and Paths through the Countryside

The Pohořelec viewpoint lies on the hill of the same name at an elevation of 524 metres above sea level. From there, you can see the southwestern panorama of the border mountains: Ostrý and Velký Javor in the Bohemian Forest, as well as Čerchov, Velký Zvon and Přimda. The viewpoint can be reached from the town square of Bělá nad Radbuzou in the direction of Bor; the final section follows a path through a meadow.
