Nový Kramolín – Cultural Traces and Landscape

Nový Kramolín Between Cultural Traces and Nature

Nový Kramolín combines historical evidence with a landscape shaped by trails, rock and water. Part of the municipality lies within the Český les Protected Landscape Area and Český les Nature Park. This gives you different starting points for planning your trip: you can explore cultural details in the village, include trails in the western part of the municipality or get to know the landscape in the direction of Vlkanov.

Baroque Heritage and a Layered Local History

Among the notable cultural monuments is the late Baroque Sousoší Nejsvětější Trojice in the garden of the Nový Kramolín kindergarten. The ensemble dates from 1766. Its pedestal is made of granite, while the ensemble itself is made of sandstone. Another historical trace is the chapel dedicated to Saint Wenceslas at the edge of the village in the direction of Vlkanov. It was built in the Baroque style in the 18th century and later remodelled in a modern style.

The village also features a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The Valtířov Monument, on the other hand, refers to a vanished settlement: it stands on the site of the former village of Valtířov and was built from granite, metal and wood in the 1990s. The history of the estate also makes Nový Kramolín interesting. Until 1786, the village belonged to the Pivoň estate of the Augustinian monastery; afterwards, the municipality became part of the Poběžovice estate. The first written reference to Kramolín dates from 1379; at that time, the place was recorded as an abandoned village.

Trails, Rock and Water

A rock outcrop with a cross is particularly characteristic for finding your way around the landscape: it is considered the dominant landscape feature of Nový Kramolín. A protected quartz ridge is also located in the cadastral area and the village. Hiking trails run through the western part of the municipality, while paved paths provide access to the surrounding area for short-term recreation.

A separate connection leads towards active day trips: the project for a footpath and cycle path connection between Nový Kramolín and Postřekov was completed on 14 March 2025. The route connects the two municipalities and is intended for pedestrians, cyclists, inline skaters and other users. A water reservoir in the direction of Vlkanov is used for swimming. In addition, a natural pond in Nový Kramolín was renovated and equipped with new pools in 2008.
