Discover Stašov

Stašov brings landscape, water and cultural heritage together in a compact area: the Křetínka floodplain begins roughly at the houses there in the south, while historic buildings and a distinctive church shape the village. There is also a pond system, a sport-fishing pond and designated cycling routes. If, on your trip to the Czech Republic, you are looking for a place with peaceful natural scenery, small cultural discoveries and various options for active days, Stašov offers several clearly identifiable points of interest.

Landscape between the Křetínka and the ponds

The Údolí Křetínky Nature Park extends into the cadastral area of Stašov. About 400 hectares of the park’s total area of 5,570 hectares lie within the municipality. The stated figure for Stašov’s share should be understood as an approximate value. From the southern houses of the village, the Křetínka floodplain continues southwards through a deeply incised valley.

Another distinctive landscape feature is the Za školou pond cascade. It consists of a pond system and surrounding wetlands along an unnamed stream between the church in Stašov and the road to Jedlová. The Křetínka catchment area also contains the Stašovské rybníky, a system of 11 ponds in total established since 1995. It was created as part of the revitalisation of the catchment area. The 4-hectare Velký stašovský serves as a sport-fishing pond. It is stocked with carp, tench, pike, catfish, perch, rainbow trout and whitefish. As a result, the water features in Stašov have a distinctly different character from the wetlands of the pond cascade.

Cycling, excursion destinations and lighter activities

There are two differently described routes to choose from for a cycling trip. The 18.8-kilometre Polička–Stašov–Svojanov cycling route is designated as route number 4104. A demanding cycling route, by contrast, runs from Polička to Svojanov and back via Stašov. It is 47.5 kilometres long and is suitable for mountain bikes and cross bikes. The two descriptions help distinguish the shorter designated route from the longer, explicitly demanding circuit.

Leisure opportunities in Stašov also include running routes and easy walks. A historically significant excursion destination is Balda (Zlatá studna). The site lies in the cadastral area of Stašov and is described as an excursion destination with former spas and healing springs. Balda was a forest spa dating from the 17th century; today, only an iron-rich water spring and a chapel remain there. It is precisely the contrast between its former function as a forest spa and the elements preserved today that gives the site a clearly defined historical character.

Church, parish house and traditional architecture

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands as a detached single-nave building on a rise in the upper part of the square. Its chancel faces west; the high altar also faces west. The church is considered a local landmark and was restored between 1864 and 1873. The parish house directly adjoins it and is one of Stašov’s significant historic buildings. This architectural ensemble is complemented by traditional folk architecture, which is also counted among the village’s sights.

One individual building adds its own distinctive historical accent: House No. 5 in Stašov is an Empire-style building from the early 19th century. Together with the church, the adjoining parish house and the traditional folk architecture, it creates a cultural profile that is not limited to a single monument. Stašov can therefore be explored through both the Křetínka landscape and the ponds and its local historic buildings.
