Discover Kukle: Boundary Stones, Hiking Trails and Moorland Meadow

Kukle is associated with border history, marked hiking trails and nature. Here, you can trace both the historic border between Bohemia and Moravia and the European watershed between the Black Sea and the North Sea. There are also small memorial sites, an educational trail and a moorland meadow. This makes it a destination whose distinctive features are revealed more through careful observation than through grand staging.

Boundary Stones and Visible Local History

On the outskirts of Kukle, next to a bus stop, stands a boundary stone between Moravia and Bohemia bearing the year 2008. The site includes an information board with photographs and a map of Kukle. This stop therefore combines a tangible sign of the region’s border history with a brief orientation to the village.

The Mariotereziánské kameny in Kukle are a historical trace. They mark the historic border between Bohemia and Moravia and are decorated with a royal crown and a bishop’s mitre. An iron cross is also part of the village’s visible cultural heritage: it stands on a stone pedestal with a figure of Christ on the left side of the Svitavy–Litomyšl road in Kukle.

Hiking Trails in Different Directions

The Turistické rozcestí Kukle trail junction is located in the centre of the village, next to a bus stop on the main road from Svitavy to Litomyšl. From this signpost, a green-marked hiking trail passes boundary stones and leads over the Na stráni hill and through the village of U Svaté Trojice and Ostrý Kámen to Vendolí railway station. In the opposite direction, the same green-marked hiking trail runs past further boundary stones to the U pramene Svitavy signpost.

A further green-marked hiking trail runs through Kukle from the bus stop in Vendolí to U pramenů Svitavy. Watershed, Moorland Meadow and Forest Pond

The European watershed between the Black Sea and the North Sea runs through Kukle, giving the village a distinctive geographical connection. As a registered important landscape feature, Louka u Kukle is another independent natural attraction. It is a moorland meadow where creeping willow, broad-leaved marsh orchid, a sedge species, narrow-leaved cottongrass, globe thistle and water avens occur.

Rybníček, a small forest pond with water lilies, a shelter, benches and numerous wooden animal carvings, is also located in the vicinity of Kukle. Alongside the open landscape features, the area therefore offers a clearly designed waterside location and the close-up nature observations provided by the moorland meadow.

Beekeeping, Historic Routes and Regional Events

The Památník včelích matek commemorates an almost forgotten regional beekeeping tradition. The Památník včelích matek is located in the Brand forest complex in the cadastral area of the municipality of Kukle and is a regionally significant work of architectural and tourist interest. The Trstěnická stezka probably ran through what is now Kukle; this cautious historical classification is expressly retained.
