Nekoř: Churches, Hiking Trails and Pastvinská Reservoir

Nekoř lies in the foothills of the Orlické Mountains along the Divoká Orlice River. Nekoř can also be reached by bus from Letohrad, Žamberk and Jablonné nad Orlicí. The Nekořský potok stream flows through the village and complements the landscape around Pastvinská Reservoir. Nekoř thus combines waterside scenery, trails and notable reminders of the village’s history. If you would like to combine nature and culture on your trip, the village offers several different starting points for planning your itinerary.

Water, Trails and Landscapes Around Nekoř

The dam of Pastvinská Reservoir and its surrounding area lie within the cadastral territory of the municipality of Nekoř and offer good conditions for water sports. Pastvinská Reservoir also provides opportunities for sport fishing. The surroundings of Pastvinská Reservoir’s balancing reservoir, known as Malá přehrada, are quieter; with the Údolí holiday settlement, the area invites visitors to take walks.

Several hiking trails and cycling routes run through Nekoř. In the Údolí district, the Zvonička bell tower stands near the recreational area of Pastvinská Reservoir, and one of the cycling routes passes by it. The Zvonička is said to have been built in 1775. When planning your trip, you can therefore combine trails, water and individual historical sites without reducing Nekoř to just one type of experience.

Churches, Museum and Historical Traces

St. Nicholas Church in Nekoř dates from 1698. Its reconstructed organs are played during organ concerts, giving the building a special cultural dimension in addition to its historical age. Another church in the village is Husův sbor, built in 1935 and belonging to the Czechoslovak Hussite Church.

At the Hasičské minimuzeum in Nekoř, you can see historic fire pumps from 1874 and 1909; the latter was reconstructed. Nekoř also preserves examples of timber log houses. On Vejrov, on a rocky ridge above the right bank of the Divoká Orlice near the Pastviny dam, lie the remains of a small, unidentified medieval castle. The various sites thus tell of sacred history, local craftsmanship and a medieval past whose details have been less clearly documented.

Special Activities Throughout the Year

The fire brigade sports grounds in Nekoř serve as a suitable starting point for the boat descent of the Divoká Orlice held in May. This event complements the general water sports opportunities at Pastvinská Reservoir with a specific activity on the river. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider whether walks and cycling routes, cultural experiences in Nekoř or the surrounding waters should be the main focus of your stay.
