Koldín

Koldín combines a landscape of meadows, ponds and mixed forests with striking traces of its history. Cultural Traces Around Koldín

Koldín Castle dates from the early 17th century. It was built near a fortress that has not survived to the present day. Beside the chapel stands a cross dating from 1889. Koldín Castle and the Chlumek fortification site represent different historical traces. The cross beside the chapel provides a clearly dated landmark.

Those interested in the history of the village will therefore encounter two different forms of historical perception. At the castle, an existing building is the focus; at the Chlumek fortification site, the terrain relief shapes the historical trace. This difference changes the way you view the surroundings: a building can be considered as a single location, while a terrain relief requires attention to its position and connections.

The Chlumek fortification site lies in a forest 1.3 kilometres east of Koldín. The traces in the terrain are particularly vivid there. A well-defined terrain relief has survived, with the remains of a presumably rectangular tower measuring approximately 10 × 9 metres. There is also a ditch up to 3 metres deep and a broad rampart that is damaged in places. The visible forms make the fortification site a historic setting in which the structure of the former complex, rather than just a building, is the main focus.

Choceňská Educational Trail and Cycling Route

The Choceňská educational trail offers several different route options for active days. The trail passes through Koldín, is 35 kilometres long and includes two circular routes of 16 and 19 kilometres respectively. There is also an approximately 3-kilometre walking loop near Kostelecké Horky. The route is suitable for cyclists and hikers and is well marked. Nineteen information boards accompany the trail, giving it an informative character in addition to its active aspect.

Those travelling by bicycle can include the two 16- and 19-kilometre circular routes in their plans. For a shorter hike, the approximately 3-kilometre walking loop near Kostelecké Horky is available. In addition, the cycling route from Vysoké Mýto to Sudslava passes through Koldín, creating another connection for cyclists. The cycling route broadens the perspective beyond the educational trail: Koldín is therefore both a stop on the marked route and part of a connection between Vysoké Mýto and Sudslava.
