Dolní Čermná – Churches, Museums and Family Educational Trail

Dolní Čermná combines prominent churches, unusual museums, a family-friendly educational trail and a historically shaped landscape. This gives the town a variety of reasons to visit: you can explore regional history, spend time outdoors or combine both.

Churches and Historical Traces

The town's defining building is the Parish Church of St George above the market square. It stands on a spur of land bordered by the Čermenka stream and is surrounded by an old cemetery. The stone tower was completed in 1559; the stone nave was added to this older tower. This building history makes the church an especially vivid place where different historical periods can be observed.

Further sacred monuments are spread throughout Dolní Čermná and the district of Jakubovice. The historic Chapel of St Barbara in the cemetery dates from the early 18th century. The filial Church of St Anthony of Padua in Jakubovice was built in 1850. It also houses Hanisch organs from the 19th century with ten stops. Their bellows are still operated by hand. The St Anthony pilgrimage at the church takes place on the Sunday around 13 June, the feast day of St Anthony of Padua. A stone bridge in Dolní Čermná bears the year 1308 and complements the historical traces with a secular structure.

Museums with Unusual Collections

The Museum of Historical Radios contains more than 200 types of radios, most of which were manufactured in the former Czechoslovakia. It also includes historical electronic components from nearly the entire production range of TESLA Lanškroun. For visitors who want to learn about the history of technology not only through large buildings, this collection offers a distinctive perspective on the region's past.

The Museum of the Market Town of Dolní Čermná first opened its exhibits to the public in the summer of 2001. Visits are possible by prior personal or telephone arrangement. The collection comprises an ethnographic section and a natural history section. Exhibits include, among other things, displays of birds, small game, rodents, antlers and mounted antler heads, as well as collections of butterflies and beetles, minerals and preserved reptiles. The various sections illustrate life in the region's natural environment across different habitats.

Family Educational Trail and Landscape

The Dolní Čermná family educational trail is suitable for an active outing. It is approximately 6 kilometres long, starts and ends in the Health and Sports Area, and can be completed on foot, by bicycle or with a pushchair. Along the route are three covered rest areas, information boards and other educational stations focused on environmental education. The trail also leads to the Crk forest spring and provides information about the birds of the surrounding area and about legends associated with the places concerned.

The landscape includes a historic pond covering 16 hectares, created in the mid-17th century. Dolní Čermná lies in the Podorlická hilly region, within the Žamberská hilly region and the Čermenská pahorkatina landscape district. For travel to the area, bus route 700904 connects Ústí nad Orlicí, Dolní Dobrouč and Dolní Čermná. Bus route 700913 connects Lanškroun, Dolní Čermná, Verměřovice and Letohrad.
