Zdechovice – Marked Trails, Castle Park and Local History

Zdechovice is a destination for anyone who wants to combine experiences in nature with local history. The village is considered a gateway to the Železné hory and offers several different points of interest: marked trails, historical traditions, memorial sites in the forests and a castle park. Trails with specific historical connections

The Svatojakubská cesta comes from Kladruby nad Labem to Zdechovice along a blue-marked hiking trail. From the Obří postele signpost, it continues on a green-marked trail towards Záboří nad Labem. This makes the village not merely a name on a map, but a station along a clearly described route. Another blue-marked connection leads from Řečany nad Labem to Zdechovice. There is a signpost for it on the village square by the memorial to the fallen.

The historic Trstenická stezka also passed through Zdechovice, where it divided into routes towards Sázava and Prague. For visitors who enjoy looking for traces of older transport and settlement history while travelling, this connection complements today's marked trails. The church in Zdechovice is dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Paul, still stands today and acquired its present form following a Baroque renovation in 1716. Historical evidence of iron mining also forms part of Zdechovice's recorded history.

Forests, memorial sites and a distinctive rock formation

Several memorial sites are located in the forests of Zdechovice. Petrova šlápota is one of them, as is Obří postele. In the vicinity of Zdechovice, Obří postele also refers to an interesting natural rock formation made of pebbles, whose shape resembles large beds.

Castle Park and the Water Landscape

The castle park in Zdechovice underwent extensive revitalisation in 2015. The castle originally included a property with a park, a fallow deer enclosure and two ponds. This information offers another way to explore the village: In addition to trails and forest-related attractions, visitors can also trace the former layout of the castle grounds.

The Pilský pond has a character of its own. It covers 7 hectares and is used exclusively for sport fishing.

Hiking and Cycling in Gently Rolling Terrain

Because of the gently rolling terrain, the tourist trails in Zdechovice can generally also be used as cycling routes, apart from minor exceptions.
