Hrobice between a River Backwater, Wetlands and Cycling Routes

Hrobice reveals its distinctive character above all where waterscapes, protected habitats and marked trails come together. The Tůň u Hrobic natural monument covers 2.8809 ha and was first designated on 12 May 1982. It protects a backwater of the Elbe with riparian vegetation as well as important plant and animal communities. A backwater is a river channel separated from the main river and gives the landscape its own water-shaped structure.

A second natural feature lies south of Hrobice: Baroch is an important ornithological area with wetland habitats, extensive reed beds and marsh meadows. The protected area also preserves a pond that is now heavily silted up, as well as surrounding meadow and woodland communities. Endangered amphibians and numerous endangered and critically endangered plant and animal species occur there; there is also a free-ranging population of wild horses. The natural areas therefore differ in their focus: at Tůň u Hrobic, the protected backwater and its riparian vegetation are central, while Baroch is characterized by wetlands, reeds and wildlife observation.

Cycling and Hiking with Different Route Options

Three clearly distinct routes are available for an active day out. Cycle Route 4124 runs from Pardubice to Opatovice through Hrobice. Cycle Route 4126 connects Hrobice with Hrobický dvůr and Bažantnice. When planning, you can therefore choose between a longer connection with Pardubice and Opatovice as its reference points and a route whose destinations are Hrobický dvůr and Bažantnice.

A yellow-marked trail also runs along the western edge of Hrobice, from Stéblová around the Baroch Nature Reserve and through the Kunětický Forest below Kunětická hora. The route thus connects its starting point in Stéblová with the Baroch Nature Reserve, the Kunětický Forest and the area below Kunětická hora.

Culture and Events in Hrobice

A scheduled event is also part of the village's character. The traditional Pohádkové putování took place on Saturday, 5 September 2026, from 2 p.m. at the Hrobice municipal sports field and was intended for children and adults. Since the event date of 5 September 2026 has already passed, this is not a notice of a future event.

The Lovecký zámeček building is now home to Perníková chaloupka and the Museum of Gingerbread. These two institutions form a cultural focal point of the surrounding area. Together with the natural areas and the cycling and hiking routes, they create a destination where you can choose between landscape, activity and a family-oriented event theme, without all the experiences belonging to the same area.
