Lázně Bohdaneč – Walking Trails, Park and Historic Sites

Lázně Bohdaneč is a destination for travellers who want to combine walks, landscapes and notable buildings. Among open countryside, an extensive park, ponds and historic buildings, there are various ways to spend your stay: you can choose a short circular route, explore an educational trail with information panels or get to know the town through its architecture and regional traditions.

Walking Trails through the Landscape and Park

The Gočárův okruh offers a particularly well-defined experience. The five-kilometre walking route leads through Lázně Bohdaneč and the surrounding open countryside. There are 14 sites along the route, so the trail offers not only exercise outdoors but also a series of discoveries.

Lázeňský park covers 17 hectares and includes around 100 species of native and exotic trees and shrubs, as well as their cultivars. Well-maintained paths, benches and neatly kept lawns shape the park and create space for walks and relaxation. At the same time, it serves as a refuge for numerous animal species, especially birds, bats and insects. In addition to its design, the park therefore also has considerable importance as a habitat.

Another route option is the circular trail from Lázně Bohdaneč to the Bohdanečské rybníky ponds. It is approximately 4.5 kilometres long and takes about two hours at a leisurely walking pace. The Bohdanečské rybníky educational trail has a different focus: it passes through a national nature reserve, is 7.25 kilometres long and includes six stations with information panels.

Historic Buildings in the Town

The town itself can also be explored in a variety of ways. The Church of St Mary Magdalene is a Baroque church dating from 1728 to 1737. The Lázně Bohdaneč Town Hall is a monument of the Czech Renaissance dating from the mid-16th century. After the fire of 1772, a Baroque façade was added, allowing different historical layers to be seen in the building.

The Lázeňský pavilon Gočár stands in the spa grounds of Lázně Bohdaneč. It was built between 1910 and 1913 and is one of the few buildings in the Cubist style. Together with the Baroque church and the town hall, the pavilion shows how varied the town’s architectural influences are. The church, town hall and pavilion thus represent Baroque, Renaissance and Cubism; their construction dates range from the 16th to the early 20th century.

Seasonal Tradition at the Pond

A special regional tradition is the annual autumn fish harvest at Bohdanečský rybník. It takes place in October and is associated with the sale of grilled fish specialities. This event complements the walks and historical impressions with a tangible insight into a traditional form of pond fish farming.
