Ústupky at Seč Reservoir

Ústupky is a holiday settlement in the southern part of Seč Reservoir, located about 200 metres from the water. As a result, the lakeshore, marked trails and protected landscapes shape the character of the place. At the same time, Ústupky combines nature experiences with a specific historical destination: the Oheb castle ruins. At the beaches, the entry into the water is shallow, making them suitable for children to swim as well.

Oheb Castle Ruins and Historic Trails

In the vicinity of Ústupky lies the ruin of a 14th-century castle known as the Oheb castle ruins, overlooking Seč Reservoir. The castle was founded at the end of the 14th century. In Ústupky, the castle ruins are an immovable cultural monument. This makes it possible to combine a walk by the water with a place where history and landscape meet directly. The visit is therefore not merely a short detour, but a clear destination for a tour through the surrounding area.

Hiking with Marked Routes

The regional hiking route “Za romantikou na hrad Oheb” runs through Ústupky along a blue-marked trail. From Ústupky, this trail leads towards the Oheb castle ruins and returns along the reservoir shore. At the same time, it is marked as the “Vlastivědná stezka Krajem Chrudimky”. The hike to the castle ruins runs mostly along marked trails and has only minor elevation changes. It is considered suitable for children and dogs, but unsuitable for pushchairs.

Swimming, Cycling and Winter Activities

In summer, visitors in the vicinity of Ústupky can swim, fish and take part in water sports at Seč Reservoir. Pedal boats and boats are also available for hire. The shallow entry at the beaches complements these options with a swimming opportunity where the water depth at the shore plays an important role. Those who prefer to explore the reservoir on land will find numerous marked cycling routes in Ústupky. In winter, there are marked and groomed cross-country ski trails around the settlement, so the possible activities vary considerably depending on the season.

Oheb Nature Reserve

The Oheb Nature Reserve protects natural submontane scree forests, relict pine forests and acidophilous woodrush-beech forests. It includes extensive scree areas and rocky sites that serve as breeding grounds for the Eurasian eagle-owl. Oheb is also an important malacological site, meaning an area of particular importance for molluscs. These different landscape features make the protected area interesting for visitors who, while hiking, want to notice not only the trail but also the forests, rocks and the special features of nature.
