Discover Tisovec

If you would like to combine historical traces, several local sites and a clearly described educational trail during a trip to Czechia, Tisovec offers specific points of interest for this. The town is located within the Železné hory Geopark. Key attractions include the Stopy Ležácké tragédie educational trail, historic buildings and memorial sites in Tisovec, Kvasín and Vrbětice, as well as the Horákův lom quarry in Otáňka.

A 13-kilometre educational trail through several localities

The Stopy Ležácké tragédie educational trail leads through Tisovec, Dřeveš, Vrbětice and Kvasín. At 13 kilometres, it connects four localities, making the route a thematic focus in its own right. It centres on the traces of the resistance and the tragic events in Ležáky during the Second World War. The historical focus is maintained throughout the route, while the local references change from Tisovec via Dřeveš and Vrbětice to Kvasín. In this way, the remembrance of Ležáky forms part of a route through several localities rather than belonging to just one section.

The 13 kilometres and the four local references give the educational trail a different structure from a visit limited to Tisovec. Those who explore it combine historical remembrance with a route that brings together several villages and their respective local features.

Historical points of interest in Tisovec, Kvasín and Vrbětice

Tisovec is home to an iron cross that was restored and reconsecrated on 19 July 1903. The exact date gives the structure a clear historical point of reference within the locality. In Vrbětice, the bell tower stands out because of its unusual construction: it is a steel structure approximately eight metres high.

Kvasín adds several different details to this local history. The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built in 1894. There is also a protected memorial small-leaved lime tree, a winter lime with a trunk circumference of 650 centimetres. Four mature lime trees grow beside the chapel. The chapel in Kvasín was renovated in 1991 at the expense of the local residents. Its tower was newly constructed and clad in copper sheet. Thus, architectural history, local remembrance and notable trees come together in Kvasín at one site.

The geopark and quarry as another local point of reference

The Tisovec area belongs to the Železné hory Geopark. Alongside the historic educational trail and the buildings in the surrounding localities, the landscape therefore also forms part of the character of the destination. Horákův lom is a quarry in Otáňka. As a distinct landscape feature, it broadens the focus from memorial sites and historical stations to include a geological point of reference. The educational trail, local history and landscape can therefore be viewed as different, interconnected themes of a stay.
