Trojovice: History on the Ležák and Cycling Tours

Trojovice combines a long local history with a landscape that can be explored in various ways. The settlement stretches along the left bank of the Ležák stream in a flat, fertile area. At the same time, the landscape also has a gently hilly character, making the village a suitable starting point for easy cycling tours. However, the focus initially lies on the traces that have shaped Trojovice for centuries.

Historical Traces in the Village Landscape

Trojovice was founded in the middle or towards the end of the 12th century. Particularly noteworthy is Tvrziště, an important archaeological site in the ÚAN I category. The remains of the circular site lie on the southern edge of the settlement and are partly used as a simple playing field. Thus, historical significance and present-day village life meet directly at this place, without the archaeological site losing its special status.

Another historical landmark is the Church of St. Michael the Archangel. It is a branch church of the Hrochův Týnec parish and stands on the site of a church that was already documented as a parish church in 1374. Its architectural form is also unusually rich in detail: The single-nave building has a flat-roofed nave and a flat-roofed presbytery, a cross-vaulted sacristy, a cross-vaulted lower section of the tower, and a masonry gallery.

In the upper part of the village, a stone cross from 1867 and a monument to the fallen local residents also commemorate the village’s history. Agriculture is likewise part of the established village structure and has long been an important livelihood in Trojovice. This explains the rural character of the village better than general landscape impressions alone. The library represents present-day community life and currently holds more than 2,200 volumes. Traditional community events include Pálení čarodějnic; the event took place on April 30, 2025.

Landscape and Cycling

Those who explore Trojovice by bicycle experience surroundings consisting of flat, fertile landscapes and gently hilly sections. The municipalities crossed by Class III roads invite visitors to take easy cycling tours. More demanding cyclists can use Chrast or Horka, about 5 km south of Trojovice, as starting points for continuing towards the Železné hory. This makes it possible to consider quieter loops in the immediate area and more athletic tours towards the uplands as different ideas for a day trip.

The bus connections are also useful for practical orientation. The connection from Trojovice to Chrast, Chrudim and Pardubice has improved.
