Rvacov – Discover Culture and Landscapes

Rvacov combines a distinctive village church, several historic crosses, and the protected landscape of the Žďárské vrchy. This makes the village appealing to anyone who, while traveling through the Czech Republic, is looking for more than just accommodation and wants to combine a distinctive cultural landscape, small discoveries, and trails of varying lengths.

Cultural Monuments in the Heart of Rváčov

St. Nicholas Church is the defining cultural landmark. Its current form dates from 1886; it has been protected as a cultural monument since May 3, 1958. As a distinctive sight, it is surrounded by traditional folk buildings. Sacred architecture and traditional rural building forms stand directly alongside one another. The church does not stand as an isolated structure in the landscape, but in surroundings where sacred architecture and traditional rural building forms can be viewed together.

One of the smaller but characteristic features of the village is the Kříž u č. p. 31 cross. It stands within Rváčov at a bend near the main road on the left-hand side and is located by the original old school. For finding your way through the village, this precise location is just as important as its connection with the old school, as it places the cross within the village’s historic fabric.

Another monument is the Kříž na křižovatce k Petrkovu cross. It is located at the crossroads on the outskirts of Rváčov in the direction of Petrkov. The stone base was restored in July 2014; at the same time, the site was redeveloped. Thus, this is not only a small religious monument, but also a visibly well-maintained point at the transition from the village toward Petrkov.

The Kříž při cestě na Veselý Kopec cross lies at the edge of private property at a viewpoint with a beautiful view and a simple wooden bench. This location distinguishes it from the two crosses in the village area: here, alongside the monument itself, the view across the surrounding area also comes to the fore. The series is complemented by the two-story pillar-shaped wayside shrine Boží muka, which has niches.

Landscape and Trails Around the Village

The southern part of Rváčov lies within the Žďárské vrchy Landscape Protection Area. Its purpose is to preserve a harmoniously balanced cultural landscape with a significant proportion of natural ecosystems. For travel planning, this describes the landscape setting of the village without equating Rváčov as a whole with the protected area.

The trails also have different routes. The red-marked Matulova stezka runs in Rváčov u Hlinska and is 1.80 km long. Route 4183, meanwhile, begins in Vortová and runs via Chlum, Vítanov, and Rváčov to a forester’s hut near Bystřice, where it ends. The Matulova stezka remains focused on Rváčov u Hlinska, while Route 4183 connects several places in a continuous sequence. The range of trails therefore extends from a 1.80 km marked route in the village to a route connecting several places.
