Unusual perspectives above Prachovice

Above Prachovice, the Železné hory Geopark has created the “Budka” viewing installation. Through the cut-out circles in the installation, visitors can see interesting objects in the surrounding landscape. The design directs the gaze not only towards a single viewpoint, but also towards selected sections of the surroundings. This makes the “Budka” an excursion destination in its own right for anyone who enjoys discovering landscapes through unusual forms and perspectives.

The “Budka” is also connected with the memory of a long freight cableway that once ran from Prachovice. This historical connection gives the short excursion destination an additional dimension: alongside the landscape, part of the area's former history of use also becomes visible. Educational Trail and Quarry

The “Kolem prachovického lomu” educational trail is laid out as a circular route. It can be started either in Prachovice or in Vápenný Podol. The designation as an educational trail also indicates the connection between the route and an explanatory exploration of the quarry.

Special permission is required to access the Prachovice geological locality, as it includes a military area, a quarry and private land.

A dedicated viewpoint at the entrance to the Prachovice quarry offers views of several quarrying levels and the use of heavy machinery. This makes the experience distinctly different from a classic landscape viewpoint: the focus is on the visible forms of quarrying and the technical work carried out in the quarry. The “Budka” and the viewpoint at the quarry therefore offer different perspectives, even though both direct attention towards the surroundings.

Reservoir and Local History

The Seč Reservoir lies in the vicinity of Prachovice and was built on the Chrudimka River. It complements the impressions created by the quarry and geopark with a waterside landscape.

The “Kaple Nanebevzetí Panny Marie” chapel is part of the local history. Around 1888, the municipality of Prachovice and its representatives decided to build a municipal chapel for religious services at their own expense. The chapel was solemnly consecrated on 8 September 1891. These two dates make the building a specific historical reference point and give the history of the village a comprehensible chronological structure.
