Discover Kněžice in the Czech Republic

Kněžice lies in a gently rolling landscape enclave in the foothills of the Železné hory. The locality is situated between the left bank of the Doubrava and the course of the Doubravka stream. One particularly clearly described route is cycling route 4234. It leads from Mladotice via Kněžice to Spytice and is 5.5 kilometres long. As an easy connecting route, it offers a manageable way to connect the locality with the regional cycling network. Another route that is important for orientation by bicycle is numbered 4188. It runs between Podhořany u Ronova and Ronov nad Doubravou through the Kněžice planning area.

There is also a circular cycling route through the Kněžice area towards Běstvina, Třemošnice, Závratec, Mladotice, Ronov nad Doubravou, and Chvalovice. A prominent historic destination is the Church of St Martin, located about 2 kilometres from Kněžice on a rock above the Doubrava. It was originally the parish church of the vanished village of Stusyně. The first written mention of the village of Stusyně and its parish church dates from 1352. A route to the Church of St Martin that is accessible by vehicle year-round and on foot leads from Kněžice.

Historic traces can also be found within Kněžice itself. At house number 23 are the archaeological remains of a fortified manor, which is listed as a cultural monument. The masonry chapel in Kněžice was built in 1930 to replace an earlier wooden bell tower. This village landscape is complemented by the historic Libická (Liběcká) Trail, which is connected with Kněžice and was used from the 8th to the 12th century as a link between Bohemia and Moravia.
