Krouna in the Czech Republic: Natural Monuments and Cultural History

It protects near-natural spruce-beech forest communities as well as the protected bird species Tengmalm's owl (Aegolius funereus), black woodpecker (Dryocopus martius) and stock dove (Columba oenas).

Another natural monument is U Tučkovy hájenky. It extends from the area of Svratouch to Krouna. The rare protected plant Dianthus superbus, the superb pink, also occurs in the cadastral area of Krouna. The two natural monuments differ in their geographical reference: Bučina–Spálený kopec is located in Krouna, while U Tučkovy hájenky extends from Svratouch to Krouna. For those interested in nature, these offer different points of focus: a designated forest area, a natural monument connected with Svratouch and a distinctive plant species within the cadastral area.

Church, baptismal font and folk architecture

The Catholic Church of Saint Michael the Archangel is located in Krouna. The present building is a Baroque church from the second half of the 18th century. At the same time, it stands on the site of a Gothic parish church that was already mentioned in 1350. A valuable Renaissance baptismal font from the 16th century has also been preserved in Krouna. The site therefore brings together a church building mentioned in medieval sources, Renaissance furnishings and the Baroque form of the present building. At one location, you can thus encounter several historical layers, from the medieval predecessor building mentioned in records to the Renaissance furnishings and the later Baroque church building.

The history of Krouna also includes its Protestant congregation. It was founded after the Patent of Toleration of 1781 as the first Reformed congregation in Bohemia. For a trip in which not only the landscape but also religious and social development play a role, this background adds another perspective to the Catholic church history.

Another example of regional architectural culture is Bukáčkův statek No. 61. The preserved farmstead is considered an important monument of folk architecture from the early 19th century. The traditional production of painted wooden toys is still associated with Krouna and represents the municipality both domestically and abroad.
