Dědová – Nature, Trails and Folk Architecture

Dědová combines the tranquil landscape of the Vysočina region with marked trails, protected habitats and remarkable evidence of regional architectural and settlement history. This typical foothill village lies at an elevation of 658 m on a gently sloping valley hillside. From here, panoramic views open onto the landscapes of Skutečsko, Novohradsko and Poličsko. For a trip that brings nature experiences and cultural discoveries together, Dědová therefore offers several different points of interest.

Landscape between peat bogs, meadows and protected areas

The entire planning area of Dědová lies within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. The Přírodní památka Bahna is particularly characteristic. It protects transitional peat bogs, nutrient-poor calcareous moss fens, tall-herb meadows, wet meadows with meadow thistles and meadowsweet, purple moor-grass meadows and Nardus grasslands. Protected and endangered components include plant and animal species. The diversity of habitats makes Bahna a specific nature destination for visitors who want to experience different types of landscape while travelling through the Vysočina region.

The Bahna settlement and the protected natural area known as “Bahna” are also used for recreation. Two watercourses complement the landscape: the Raná stream rises at the western edge of Dědová, while the Dědový potok stream is located in the eastern part of Dědová.

Hiking and cycling around Dědová

Those who want to explore Dědová actively will find several documented routes. A red-marked hiking trail leads through Dědová onwards to Krouna, Otradov and Česká Rybná. In the opposite direction, the red-marked hiking trail runs to Kameničky, Chlumětín and Svratka. In addition, a marked hiking trail leads via Filipov to Kameničky. For cyclists, the registered cycling route 4122 runs through the Dědová area on the Kameničky–Dědová–Vojtěchov section.

Another way to experience the region as a cohesive cultural landscape is offered by the route “Za inspirací malířů Vysočiny”. It connects Hlinsko, Rataje, Dědová, Kameničky, Lány and Hamry before returning to Hlinsko. In addition to individual trails, longer connections are therefore available, placing Dědová within a larger discovery route.

Folk architecture and local history

Dědová was first mentioned in writing in 1392. In the 19th century, the village was known for the production of wooden toys. Near the municipal office there is a public area with log houses representing folk architecture. Another important landmark is House No. 12: it is considered a significant example of folk architecture and documents the traditional settlement of the Vysočina region through preserved elements of traditional vernacular construction.

The monument to the residents of Dědová is also part of the village’s history. It commemorates the victims of the First World War and is registered under identification number CZE5302-6257 in the Central Register of War Graves. A stay in Dědová can thus be explored not only through its landscape and activities, but also through remembrance, craftsmanship and regional architectural forms.
