Drevikov between Jewish heritage and the Bohemian landscape

Drevikov combines impressive evidence of Jewish history with rural architecture and extensive trails through the Bohemian landscape. This allows you to shape your stay in different ways: you can focus on the history of the place, visit the open-air museum at Veselý Kopec or plan a hike as a longer excursion.

Historic places with unusual details

In Dřevíkov, Židovská Street has been preserved. There, the Jewish community built a synagogue, baths and its own school. The former Židovská Lane also contains a former Jewish school, a half-timbered log house bearing house number 47 and a small potash works. The center of Dřevíkov was rebuilt by Jewish residents with interconnected, multistorey masonry buildings. This urban development contrasts with the picturesque log-built wooden house, which is the only one to have survived from the period before the great fire.

The Jewish cemetery is also one of the town's defining cultural monuments. It was probably established in the mid-18th century, is registered as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and contains around 300 Baroque and Neoclassical tombstones known as macevot. The present-day copy of Dřevíkov's historic rural bell tower has stood in the village square since 1976. Another bell tower is located at the village bus stop.

Veselý Kopec and rural everyday life

Veselý Kopec is a cultural highlight in its own right. The log houses there present the homes and livelihoods of small farmers from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century. The visit also includes unique technical monuments powered by water. For cars and buses, there is a car park operated by the municipality of Vysočina, located 250 meters from the open-air museum.

Hiking between Dřevíkov and the Chrudimka

For longer tours, the Vlastivědná stezka Krajem Chrudimky follows a clearly defined route: it begins at the Filipovský spring of the Chrudimka, ends in Chrudim, is 82 km long in total and has 31 information boards. The Kavánova Trail can be extended via Dřevíkov to Svobodné Hamry or Trhová Kamenice. It is recommended as a one-way route and is not a circular trail. These different route lengths help you distinguish between a short outing and planning a longer hike.

The mountains of Žákova hora, Devět Skal, Bučina and Světka are located in the wider region around Dřevíkov. When choosing your accommodation, the key consideration is therefore whether you want to focus on the historic sites and Veselý Kopec or on longer trails and the landscape farther afield.
