České Lhotice combine an exceptional archaeological history with the open landscape of the Železné hory. Celtic History Around Hradiště

The České Lhotice archaeological site is an archaeological monument reserve. Northwest of the present-day Hradiště district, a Celtic oppidum was established in the 2nd to 1st century BC on a promontory high above a meander of the Chrudimka. The site covered approximately 20 hectares and was heavily fortified with massive ramparts, which were built in up to three layers on three sides.

The České Lhotice oppidum is the only Celtic oppidum in eastern Bohemia. In addition to residential and economic buildings, the archaeological site contains evidence of wells, hearths, and terraces. The Celtic settlement can therefore be understood not only through its fortifications, but also through indications of everyday life within the site. The České Lhotice oppidum area is accessed from the east, where fortifications with two ditches are visible.

A View from the Rozhledna Boika

The Rozhledna Boika offers another perspective on your stay. The lookout tower is 14.5 metres high, and its observation platform is located at a height of 11 metres. The Rozhledna Boika is open year-round and free of charge. The site also includes a covered, wheelchair-accessible seating area with a table and benches. This makes it possible to plan the lookout point as a standalone activity with plenty of space for a break, without limiting your visit to a particular season.

Landscape Between Cycling, Water, and Horses

Anyone who wants to discover České Lhotice through more than its history will find several different ways to experience the landscape. Cycle route No. 4114 passes through the area. České Lhotice also has an equestrian facility for children and adults that offers rides through the centre of the Celtic settlement. This creates a special connection between physical activity and the site’s historical theme for families with children and adults, without requiring the two interests to be considered separately.

The Vedralka district lies at an altitude of approximately 530 metres and is known for swimming in a natural pond fed by streams from the surrounding forests. Another landscape destination is the 3-metre-high Hradišťský vodopád waterfall on a tributary of the Chrudimka. These two places offer different experiences: Vedralka represents water amid a wooded environment, while the waterfall marks a specific natural feature on a tributary of the Chrudimka.
