Vilémov – Churches, Monastery, Forest and Reservoir

Vilémov combines distinctive religious buildings with a landscape of forests, views of the hills and water. St. Catherine and other churches

The Baroque Church of St. Catherine was built from the ground up in 1758 on the site of an earlier church. Its tower was rebuilt in 1908. During the work, the original low roof was replaced by a significantly higher roof in the form of an onion dome with a lantern. The Orthodox church in Vilémov also has a clearly documented history: construction began in 1931, and it was consecrated on 14 August 1932. Monastic life and religious traditions

The Monastery of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God was consecrated on 18 September 1993 and belongs to the monasteries of the Olomouc–Brno Eparchy. Visitors can attend the evening and morning services. Every year, the Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God is celebrated here with a pilgrimage service; the feast also includes a procession around the church. The monastery is therefore not only a historical point of reference, but also a place of religious tradition.

Historical traces in the village

The reconciliation cross is another notable trace of the village’s history. It is considered the oldest monument in the territory of the municipality of Vilémov, is estimated to be around 400 years old and bears a relief of a sword on its front. In 2015, the original paintings and sculptures were returned to the church, wherever possible to their original locations. After years away, the original Stations of the Cross images also returned.
