Lipina combines chapel history with trails in the mountainous Nízký Jeseník. The village centre, a viewpoint, and cycling and hiking routes described in different ways provide practical orientation. When choosing a route, the rolling terrain of the cycling loop and the road sections of the hiking trail are especially important.

Lipina at a glance

  • 44 percent of the municipality’s area lies within the Sovinecko Nature Park.
  • Chapel in the centre: built in 1838, reconstructed in 2013.
  • The 36-kilometre cycling loop passes through Lipina.

Landscape and views

Lipina lies in the central, mountainous part of the Nízký Jeseník region. About 44 percent of the municipality’s area is within the Sovinecko Nature Park. For the Sovinecko Nature Park as a whole, the landscape plan identifies protecting the character of the landscape and near-natural forest complexes as objectives. In 2018, two tourist seating areas were built in Lipina: one by a small pond, the other on the path to Oldřichovský kopec. The seating areas offer beautiful views of Haná.

Chapel and local history

The “Navštívení Panny Marie” Chapel stands in the village centre, about 50 m from the road from Šternberk and near the turn-off for the road to Těšíkov. The present rectangular, brick-built chapel has a semicircular end; it replaced a wooden chapel in 1838. Its interior and exterior were completely reconstructed in 2013. A small bell tower topped with a cross completes the building. A stone cross with a German inscription stands in front of the chapel. On the path from the chapel to the crossroads is a monument to those who fell in the First World War.

The earliest record of the existence of the municipality of Lipina dates from 1296.

Culture and the racing circuit

The statue Ježíš Kristus stands beyond Lipina, near the old Ecce Homo road. It is considered an object of outstanding aesthetic and architectural value. The Ecce Homo hill-climb racing circuit also passes through the municipality of Lipina. The full ECCE HOMO ŠTERNBERK racing course in the wider travel area is listed as 7,800 m long, with an elevation difference of 307 m; these figures do not refer to the section in Lipina. The figures relate to different types of routes: a cycling loop and the racing course.

Cycling and hiking

The “Za živou vodou” cycling route runs from the square in Šternberk via Dolní Žleb, Horní Žleb, Dalov, Horní Loděnice, Těšíkov and Lipina, returning to the square. The loop is 36 km long and runs through rolling terrain with significant elevation changes. Lipina is one point on the route; the start and finish are at the square in Šternberk.

The “Zelená stezka – Za živou vodou” route runs from Šternberk via Lipina and Těšíkov to the Těšíkovská kyselka spring. From Lipina, the Zelená stezka Šternberk hiking route runs mainly along the road towards the spring and follows the green hiking trail markers. The routes therefore differ in character: a longer cycling loop through several villages and a hiking trail that runs mostly along the road from Lipina.

If you choose the hiking route, take its road sections into account and check local conditions before setting out.
