Dolany: Culture, Golf and Landscapes Around Historic Sites

History and Special Places in Dolany

At Kartouzka, the remains of a medieval Carthusian monastery dating from 1388–1425 and an associated Hussite fortification can be seen. The surviving structures include remnants of the stone church walls, the cloisters and individual cells. The various architectural elements show different areas of the former complex and give the historic site a multi-layered structure.

A Stations of the Cross was also created at Kartouzka in spring 2021. Children from ZUŠ Miroslava Stibora – Dolany contributed to the ceramic reliefs under the guidance of Helena Lisá; fathers built the crosses together with children from the local parish. The Stations of the Cross complement the medieval traces with a more recent religious design and local participation.

The historic appearance of the village includes Dolany Chateau with its surrounding park, a significant early Baroque building dating from 1667, as well as the single-nave late Baroque parish church of St. Matthew, dating from 1776–1785. The Dolany rectory dates from 1829–1835 and is a valuable part of the parish church complex. The rectory garden also contains an oriental-style pavilion dating from 1844. In the village square, a column with a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk commemorates an iconographically rare work from 1709. The chronological span extends from the medieval monastery to the pavilion in the rectory garden dating from 1844. As a result, the historic appearance of the village encompasses heritage from several centuries.
