Hlubočky combines protected landscapes, educational trails and unusual family experiences with a history reaching back to Hluboký Castle. Here you can choose between observing nature, a route through the Bystřice Valley, active attractions and small cultural discoveries.

Protected landscapes in the Bystřice Valley

The Údolí Bystřice protected area covers the cadastral territory of Hlubočky and extends across 751 hectares in the Bystřice Valley between Smilovský mlýn and Hlubočky. The landscape is predominantly characterized by well-preserved species-rich and acidophilous beech forests. Gorge forests occur on a small scale, while oak-hornbeam forests and dry acidophilous oak forests are also found in the south. Remnants of mesophilous and wet meadows have been preserved in the river floodplain.

Another special feature is the Hrubovodské sutě nature reserve on the slopes of the right bank of the Bystřice near Hrubá Voda, a district of Hlubočky. It protects a geomorphologically diverse area with natural and near-natural forest ecosystems of the 4th and 5th forest vegetation zones. These include beech, fir-beech, gorge and riparian ash-alder forests, as well as characteristic, endangered and regionally declining wild plant and free-living animal species.

Educational trails and experiences for different day plans

The Údolím Bystřice educational trail is 13 kilometres long, marked blue, and runs between the Domašov nad Bystřicí and Hrubá Voda railway stations. It is not a circular route and includes 11 stations covering the nature, geology and history of the landscape along the Bystřice in the deeply incised valley of the Nízký Jeseník. Shorter is the Kobold Hrubík educational trail, which is over 1 kilometre long and has seven educational and entertaining stations for families with children.

The Kamzíkova stezka treetop trail is located at the Hrubá Voda resort. The system of climbing elements, slides and a rope maze is situated 13 metres above the ground and is suitable for children and adults. The bobsleigh track in Hlubočky has 17 curves, including 10 left-hand and 7 right-hand curves, as well as two 360-degree carousels, a 45-metre-long bridge and a 9-metre-long tunnel.

Castle and sacred sites

Hluboký Castle lies in the Bystřice Valley between the Hrubá Voda and Hrubá Voda–zastávka railway stations, in the cadastral territory of the municipality of Hlubočky. The noble residence was built on a rocky, tongue-shaped spur around which the river flows on three sides. The first surviving written record of the castle dates from 1351.

In the village centre stands the filial Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on the village square in Hlubočky, near Školní Street. In Mariánské Údolí, the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows is located near the Moravia factory.

Getting there and further destinations

Hlubočky railway station is located on route 310 Olomouc–Opava as well as on the Rýmařov–Valšov connection. Other destinations in this selection are Bukovany, Přáslavice, Cholina, Medlov U Uničova, Charváty, Těšetice, Kožušany-Tážaly and Mladeč.
