Daskabát – Earthworks, Cycle Paths and Historical Traces
Daskabát between Forest, History and Cycle Paths
Daskabát lies at the foothills of the Oderské vrchy. Forest covers one fifth of the cadastral area and, alongside the open areas, shapes the character of the surroundings.
Cycling complements the historical sites with an active option. The sports complex is located in the centre of the village and borders the newly built Přáslavice–Velký Újezd cycle path. Cycle route no. 6265 also runs from Velká Bystřice via Přáslavice and Daskabát to Tršice. The two connections create different spatial focal points: the new cycle path lies directly next to the sports complex in the village centre, while route no. 6265 connects Daskabát with several places all the way to Tršice. The sports complex also has tennis courts.
Earthworks and Archaeological Traces
The earthworks of Zámčisko Fortress are particularly illustrative. They consist of a fortified settlement of the motte type with a central mound measuring approximately 10 × 14 metres, a shallow ditch, a rampart and an outer ditch. In places, the earthworks are covered with coniferous forest and shrubs. As a result, earth formations visible in the terrain alternate with overgrown sections. Zámčisko Fortress is listed in the State Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments; archaeological traces and remains are located on the edge of Boří Forest in the Zámčisko area.
At the same location, the history of Sedlec Fortress also points to the area’s long past. The village of Sedlec is first mentioned in 1359, and historically valuable remains of Sedlec Fortress are located at Zámčisko in Daskabát. Another historical trace lies near U Slaného, northwest of Daskabát. There, an elongated oval plateau and part of the rampart of a medieval fortress, not yet more precisely dated, have been preserved in the terrain. At U Slaného, the focus is therefore on a plateau with part of a rampart, while Zámčisko is characterised by a central mound, two ditches and a rampart. U Slaného Fortress is listed in the State Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments in Daskabát.
Village History and Local Culture
In the village itself, the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on the village square. It is designated as a monument of local significance and dates from 1909. With its year of construction, it complements the older settlement and fortification traces with a more recent historical testimony. Otěhřiby Fortress is also part of the local history: the abandoned village of Otěhřiby, which preceded present-day Daskabát, is first mentioned in 1232. Otěhřiby Fortress is first mentioned in 1447, and remains of this fortress have been preserved in Daskabát. The years 1232, 1359 and 1447 thus connect the history of Otěhřiby, Sedlec and the associated fortification remains.
A distinctive local feature is the Král Daskabátské slivovice 2026 competition. After judging, a public tasting of all submitted samples takes place. In this way, a regional tradition complements the archaeological and architectural evidence that shapes the image of Daskabát.
