Dubčany is a destination for anyone who wants to combine historical traces with a rural character while travelling through Czechia. Here, history is reflected not only in individual buildings, but also in local names and distinctive forms of village architecture.

The landscape around the village is shaped by agriculture. The municipality of Dubčany covers 314 hectares of arable land and 323 hectares of land used for agriculture. The village landscape therefore brings together agricultural areas, farm architecture, and religious buildings. Visitors who are not looking exclusively for urban attractions during their stay will find an appealing way here to explore a smaller Czech village.

Historical Traces in the Village Landscape

A notable starting point for exploring the village’s history is the Chapel of Saint Isidore. It stands on the green village square in Dubčany and dates from 1869. Its location on the village square makes it a tangible point of reference for learning about the village; at the same time, its date remains an independent indication of Dubčany’s more recent architectural history.

Older history is associated with the former fortress of Dubčany, which was first mentioned in 1407. The site adds another historical reference to the village’s history. The northern entrance between Dubčany’s circularly arranged buildings is traditionally called Brána.

Farm architecture also shapes the village landscape. In particular, the farmsteads in Dubčany still had projecting structural elements – Žudry – until the mid-20th century. The Žudry complement the chapel and former fortress with an architectural detail from the village’s farming history. Cycling Route and Rural Discoveries

Dubčany is also located along a cycling connection. Official cycling route 6244 runs through Dubčany and continues to Odrlice. This makes it possible to plan a cycling tour from Dubčany to Odrlice. An additional cultural and historical stop lies along the cycling route from Cholina to Náklo: a column dedicated to the Immaculate Virgin Mary stands there.

The sights of Dubčany also include a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk and a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes.
