Vřesina: Discover Nature Trails and Local History

Vřesina combines a nature-oriented walk with vivid traces of local history. The “Okolo Vřesiny” nature trail leads through an avenue of fruit trees to the “Vodní důl”. There you will find a spring and a forest bog. The same trail is also home to the so-called “Mechtildin dub”, an oak tree over 500 years old that is associated with several legends. This creates a route where the landscape, stories and visible features are closely intertwined.

Between the Fruit Tree Avenue and Mechtildin dub

At the foot of “Mechtildin dub” lies a large erratic boulder made of Swedish granite. The designation “Mechtild’s Oak” is carved into the stone. The boulder is therefore a distinct feature of the nature trail, complementing the old tree with a striking testament in stone. The inscription and the legends add different accents to the same route: the granite bears a specific designation, while the old tree is associated with several stories.

Cyclists can also include Vřesina in their plans: Cycling route 554, “Prajzská cesta”, passes through Vřesina. The nature trail combines observations of nature with local history, while the cycling route leads through the village.

Local History with Specific Dates

The first written mention of Panský dvůr dates from 1431. The original courtyard of Panský dvůr ran along today’s Ve Dvoře Street. Almost five centuries lie between 1431 and the construction of the church in 1930.

Another notable construction date belongs to today’s “sv. Vilém” church. It was built in 1930 and consecrated on 26 October of the same year. The courtyard belongs to the older local history, while the church represents a much later period. Those who want to combine nature and history will therefore find different time scales in Vřesina: a nature trail with old landscape features, a traditional local name and a church building with a precisely dated origin.

Events and Local Encounters

Events are also held in Vřesina. At Dožínky in Vřesina, the 31st edition of the harvest festival took place in 2022 at the Výletiště venue. The Gulášfest was held in September 2025, where parents in particular could sample goulash. Gulášfest and Vřestezka both took place in September 2025, but with different focuses.

Vřestezka also took place in September 2025. Children and parents could visit nine stations prepared by local associations. Through simple tasks, participants learned more about the work of the local associations and received a small reward at the end. This format differs considerably from the historical walk and cycling: it focuses on discovering things together and on the local associations.
