Moravice: Nature Park, Culture and River Landscape

Moravice combines protected landscapes, sacred buildings and activities along the Moravice River to create a destination with many different facets. Part of the administrative area of Moravice lies within the Moravice Nature Park. Hilly terrain as well as deciduous and coniferous forests characterize the nature park; it also includes sunny meadows, wild berries and clean air. In the wider regional area, the nature park also contains 15 recorded sites of protected and endangered species. This natural setting is therefore suited to visitors who want to spend their days exploring the landscape, experiencing culture and enjoying outdoor activities. The landscape thus extends from sunny meadows and wild berries to sites of protected species.

Sacred and Other Cultural Monuments

A prominent cultural landmark is the Parish Church of St. Philip and St. James. It is listed as an immovable cultural monument and is a single-nave Baroque building dating from 1735. After a fire in 1954, the church was restored in 1958. The historic village center also contains four smaller chapels, which are considered important sacred elements that shape the landscape.

Further evidence of the village's history completes this picture. The former Fojtství No. 113 is a single-storey Empire-style building from the first half of the 19th century. Vila Eliška No. 58 in Moravice is also listed as an immovable cultural monument. The historic appearance of the village also includes the memorial to those who fell in the First World War, a valuable sculptural work by the Silesian sculptor Josef Obeth.

River Landscape and Active Excursions

In the wider regional surroundings, the Moravice Valley lies between Kružberk and Hradec nad Moravicí. In places, it features gorges with walls up to 120 meters high. The Moravice is also associated with canoeing; the river flows through a valley several dozen kilometers long. A calm section of river approximately 1 km long below the Kružberk Reservoir is considered suitable for families and beginners in paddling. It begins about 300 m below the dam. The calm section below the dam is therefore considerably shorter than the entire valley.

For exercise, the Moravice Fit Trail includes elements for outdoor fitness and play. Information boards, benches, waste bins and a bicycle rack are also part of its facilities. The marked cycling route 551 MORAVICE also runs through the area around Moravice. This makes it possible to combine nature and active pursuits with the historic impressions of the village.

Getting There and Further Destinations

Moravice is connected by road to Melč, Lhotka u Litultovic, Nové Lublice, Vítkov and Opava. There is no railway connection.
