Kobeřice Ve Slezsku connects the Hlučínsko cultural region with a varied landscape and an unusually diverse range of evidence of regional history. The town lies in the Hlučín Uplands in the valley of the Bílý potok, which is known as the Oldřišovský potok. Church, Granaries and Village Architecture

A prominent landmark is the Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie church. The Neo-Gothic church was built in 1895–1896 on the site of an older wooden church. Its 52-metre-high tower and three-nave floor plan in the shape of a Latin cross give the building a clearly recognisable architectural form. The church also has a Way of the Cross with 14 stations in Gothic frames, made by the C. Buhla workshop from Breslau.

A different view of the town’s history is offered by the group of 13 timber-framed granaries on Mlýnská Street. The buildings, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, are recognised as examples of folk architecture. The oldest wooden granary dates from 1777. The cultural picture is complemented by Čujkův mlýn, which is designated in Kobeřice as a technical monument and mill complex. In the western part of the parish area stands the Kaple svatého Urbana chapel beneath a centuries-old, broad-canopied lime tree. The Kaple Nejsvětější Trojice chapel lies between Kobeřice and Rohov.

Cycling Routes with Different Course Profiles

Two differently described cycling routes are central to active exploration. The 16-kilometre Cycle Route 6054 leads from Velké Hoštice via Chlebičov, Oldřišov and Služovice, past St. Urban to Kobeřice, and continues to Střední Dvůr and Albertovec. The 14-kilometre Cycle Route 552 connects Opava with Racibórz, runs via Kobeřice to the Strahovice/Krzanowice border crossing, and follows roads closed to motor vehicles. Depending on your preferred route, you can include either a route through several towns or a connection towards the border in your travel plans.

Natural Area and Special Events

The Kobeřické motýlí stráně are thermophilous dry grasslands on a slope of the gypsum quarry near Kobeřice. Protected and endangered species occur there; the area is also home to up to 32 species of diurnal butterflies. During sheep grazing, visitors should not enter the fenced-off areas. This clear restriction is important to bear in mind before visiting the natural area.

The three-day weekend festival Koberský odpust takes place every year around 15 August. The date coincides with the feast day of the patron saint of the Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie church. The festival includes a funfair, market stalls, an extensive cultural programme and screenings at the summer cinema.
