Chlebičov combines a distinctive landscape with traces of a long local history and several opportunities for active days. The centre lies in a valley depression formed by the Chlebičov stream in the hilly Hlučín uplands. As a result, not only the town centre but also the gently rolling surroundings shape the character of a stay. Landscape and history around Chlebičov

A notable landmark is the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary, which dates from 1895 and is a defining feature of the townscape. Nearby stands an erratic boulder considered to be a remnant of a powerful northern glacier from the Ice Age. The stone adds a landscape detail to the local history that reaches far beyond the documented history of the settlement.

Archaeological finds show that the Chlebičov area was already settled in the Bronze Age, around 1800 BC. The first written mention of the place dates from 1250. Those who wish not only to be on the move during their stay but also to appreciate the historical character of a place will therefore find several layers of time here: the early settlement, the medieval mention and the chapel still visible today.

Park, activities and relaxing hours

For a varied break, Chlebičov Park offers green spaces as well as play and exercise elements. It also includes a circuit for inline skating and a place to relax. This makes it possible to combine active stretches and quieter moments at a single destination without losing sight of the local history.

Another option for active leisure is Chlebičov swimming pool, which has a beach volleyball court. This provides a clear choice for planning the day between the park, swimming pool and routes in the surrounding area. Which combination you choose depends on whether you want to focus on exercise, a break in the greenery or a cycling excursion.

Cycling routes and trails through the region

A cycling route towards Svoboda with a renewed surface is suitable for cycling, inline skating and walking. In addition, the Czech section of Cycle Route No. 552 from Opava to Racibórz runs via Chlebičov, Svoboda and Kobeřice to the Strahovice/Krzanowice border crossing. This section is 14.00 km long, runs away from roads for motor vehicles and is considered the shortest cycling connection between the partner cities of Opava and Racibórz.

Chlebičov is also an interesting stop on a longer cultural and historical route: the town lies on the 276.5 km-long Moravian-Silesian Route of the Way of St. James. It leads from Poland to Austria via Opava and Hradec nad Moravicí to Olomouc, continuing to Brno and Mikulov. You can obtain a stamp at the municipal administration office during office hours or by prior telephone arrangement. Local festivals and further discoveries

The local events calendar includes Dny obce Chlebičov, a recurring village festival held on 15 and 16 August. An edition documented in 2019 was the fourth. Another traditional event is a gardeners’ evening on 29 August from 4 p.m. The competition “O nejkrásnější rozkvetlé obydlí” is judged there. Such events complement the impressions of the landscape and history with insights into local community life.
