Hodslavice – Culture, Nature and Trails at the Foot of the Beskids

Hodslavice combines village history with landscape experiences at the foot of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids. The town is located near the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area and on the main road between Nový Jičín and Valašské Meziříčí. The Palacký Trail tourist hike takes place every year on the penultimate Saturday in May and starts at the monument to František Palacký in Hodslavice.

For shorter nature observations, the butterfly garden is available. It is freely accessible year-round at no charge and designed as a floral oasis with nectar-producing plants. Another destination lies near Hodslavice in the direction of Hostašovice and Valašské Meziříčí: the Kacabaja reservoir is frequently used for swimming and recreation in summer. Hodslavice as a Place of History

In the town center stands the Church of St. Andrew, a single-nave timbered wooden church. It is one of the oldest surviving wooden churches in the Czech Republic. The Church of the Divine Heart of the Lord in Hodslavice is also part of the town’s history and has been protected as an immovable cultural monument since August 18, 1999.

The birthplace of František Palacký was built in 1796 by his father, Jiří Palacký, and has been a national cultural monument since 1978. Fojtova stodola provides another historical focal point: the more than two-hundred-year-old farm building, constructed from hewn beams, is an immovable cultural monument. As part of the Sochy u lesa cultural event, it regularly hosts works by local and visiting artists as well as craftspeople.

West of Hodslavice, the town’s windmill stands on a hill. It was built in 1864 and is an immovable cultural monument in private ownership. Its location adds another distinctive point of regional architectural and technological history to the town center, without making the windmill equivalent to the centrally located churches or the Palacký monument.
