Archaeology as a defining experience

Chotěbuz invites you on a journey through several historical eras. At its centre is the Chotěbuz-Podobora Archaeopark, which reconstructs the former hillfort complex with fortifications, period dwellings, production facilities, a cult structure and an ironworking furnace. The site brings history to life not only through individual artefacts, but also through the architectural and craft practices of the time.

The Chotěbuz-Podobora archaeological site is one of the most important prehistoric and early medieval monuments in Cieszyn Silesia. It is located on a river terrace where a large three-part hillfort complex once stood. The Olše River originally flowed below the site. This combination of landscape and the past gives the place its distinctive character: you see not only a historical reconstruction, but also the location where the former complex once stood.

The Archaeopark includes interactive exhibitions about the local archaeological site. A pottery workshop with a kiln and potter’s wheel is used for various school and public events. In addition to viewing the historical structures, the site therefore also offers an insight into a specific craft.

Historical Traces in the Townscape

Another stop is the Muzeum Československého lehkého opevnění Chotěbuz. It comprises three reconstructed light fortification structures of the vz. 37 type, each of which illustrates a different historical era. For school visits and excursions, other dates can also be arranged by prior agreement. This is particularly relevant if you would like to include the museum visit in a fixed day trip.

The Hláska u zámku adds to this historical picture. The cylindrical stone tower is approximately 10 metres high and is the last surviving remnant of Chotěbuz’s Gothic fortifications from the 13th and 14th centuries. Together with the Archaeopark and the reconstructed fortification structures, the tower shows how varied the historical evidence in Chotěbuz is.

Cycling and Excursions at Different Paces

There are also specific options for active exploration. Cycle Route 6100 between Dolní Těrlicko and Albrechtice passes through Chotěbuz. Cycle Route 10 between Český Těšín, Karviná and Bohumín also runs through the town. If you are planning a trip by bicycle, you can therefore include Chotěbuz in two different route connections.

Stáj U Luka offers a different kind of excursion. It has two outdoor riding arenas: one sand arena and one sand arena with geotextile, each in a facility measuring 4,000 m². There is also a 70 × 24 m indoor riding arena with show-jumping equipment. Other activities include rides in the surrounding area, carriage rides and sleigh rides in winter. This allows you to add an equestrian experience or a ride with a historical or seasonal character to your stay.
