Discover Řepiště
Accommodation in Řepiště
Řepiště combines sacred buildings, forest paths and cycling connections into a townscape with several distinct points of interest. The Silesian wooden church creates a different accent from the small chapels, while the forest path on Lesní Street is linked to an earlier processional tradition. The range extends from the architectural form of the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua and the ceramic figures in the Florian Chapel to the routes between Paskov, Sedliště, Ostrava and the Beskids.
Wooden Church and Chapels with Their Own Character
A church in Řepiště belongs to a highly distinguished group of Silesian wooden churches. A smaller and particularly picturesque stop is the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua. The small white-plastered chapel stands by the forest on Jezdecká Street. Its square floor plan shows Baroque influences; it was built before 1836. It is precisely the combination of its architectural form, age and location by the forest that makes it a specific detail to look for when exploring the town.
The chapel on Salzweg stands on Solná Street in the Vinohrady district of Řepiště. The street forms part of the historic “Salzweg”, giving the chapel’s name a direct local connection. The chapel thus links the section of road in the Vinohrady district with the historic name Salzweg. The chapel is accessible to pedestrians via a footpath. Another landmark is the Chapel of Saint Florian on Zemědělská Street, near the “U Kříže” bus stop in the direction of Sedliště. Inside, there is a gallery with 30 ceramic figures of Saint Florian. The figures were made by children from Řepiště in the ceramics class at the local primary school. The gallery is therefore rooted in the local school environment and combines sacred tradition with a concrete contribution from community life.
Forest Path, Historical Memory and Landscape
On Lesní Street, a chapel stands along a forest path connecting Řepiště with the Rakovec district. In the past, parish processions travelled from Rakovec to Hájek, a pilgrimage site in Lískovec, for the May devotions to the Frýdek Madonna. The path was therefore part of a religious connection between Rakovec and the pilgrimage site. The processions are a thing of the past.
A precise geographical classification is provided by the Řepiště–Vinohrady locality. It is designated as a site where Těšínite is found in the Silesian Unit of the Outer Western Carpathians. Two cycling connections pass through Řepiště. Cycle Route 6065 runs through Řepiště between Paskov and Sedliště. In addition, Long-Distance Cycle Route 59 Ostrava–Beskydy passes through the town. The two routes therefore cover different areas: Paskov–Sedliště and Ostrava–Beskydy.
