Hrádek Nad Olší: Trails, Nature and Local History
Accommodation in Hrádek Nad Olší
Hrádek Nad Olší combines marked trails, a riverside landscape and engaging local history within a compact thematic area. Here, you can combine an active day with nature observation, discover traces of medieval fortifications or gain insights into everyday life in earlier times at the museum. Families will particularly appreciate that, alongside hiking and cycling opportunities, playful stations and unusual local stories invite them to explore.
Hiking, Cycling and Nature by the Water
One clearly described hiking option is the Hrádek–Chata Hrádek–Filipka trail. It is 4.8 km long and has an elevation gain of 386 m. This makes the route a practical choice for anyone who wants to plan their time in Hrádek around a continuous hike. The marked trail network in Hrádek serves hikers, cyclists and, in winter, cross-country skiers. Depending on the activity you prefer, this allows you to shape your stay in different ways, without experiencing the landscape from just a single perspective.
In the Hrádek Auwald Girov, an educational trail leads to an elevated, covered birdwatching platform. From there, you can observe the landscape and wildlife, especially birds. The educational trail also features three information panels, two interactive learning stations and five forest benches. This makes the natural area an appealing quiet exploration section within a varied day, while the information directs attention to the surroundings and their wildlife.
Another distinctive landscape feature is the Olše Canyon in Hrádek. It is approximately 1 km long and 10 m deep. At the same time, the canyon serves as a starting point for water tours on the Olše. Thus, alongside hiking and cycling, the area around the town also offers a water-based activity.
Filipka, Zómczysko and the History of the Town
At the summit of Filipka, a sandstone block marks the tripoint—or three-municipality meeting point—of Hrádek, Nýdek and Návsí. The stone was erected at the actual boundary point in 1997. This specific place combines the experience of the landscape with orientation within the region, without reducing its significance to merely a viewpoint.
Only a damaged central core and a disturbed neck ditch remain of the medieval fortification of Zómczysko. The small castle once served to monitor a trade route from Hungary through the Jablunkov Pass to Silesia. Those interested in historic transport routes and the function of earlier fortifications will therefore encounter not only remnants of walls here, but also a clearly preserved connection to their original purpose.
The Hrádek Museum and Information Centre is located in a reconstructed, hundred-year-old former fire station. It displays a wide range of everyday objects used by earlier generations in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The museum is located at Hrádek 115 next to the Leisure Activities Centre; visits should preferably be arranged in advance. Another local speciality is the “hrádecký rynik,” a three-legged metal kettle once used in the fields to warm food.
The traditional “Běh Hrádkem” race reached its 30th edition in 2026. The GULÁŠFEST goulash festival takes place in Belko; its fifth edition is announced there for 2026.
