Horní Domaslavice
Accommodation in Horní Domaslavice
Horní Domaslavice is a destination for travelers who want to combine cycling and regional history in a single stay. The well-maintained regional cycling route 6005 and the local cycling route 6163 run through the municipality. In addition, there is an educational trail with five stations, the protected landscape feature Mořské oko, and several historic buildings. This means the municipality can be experienced not just through a single attraction, but through different approaches to the landscape, architectural history, and traces handed down through the generations.
Cycling Routes and Educational Trail
Those wishing to include cycling in their trip will find two routes in Horní Domaslavice: the regional cycling route 6005 and the local cycling route 6163. Another way to explore the municipality is offered by the educational trail. Mořské oko is one of the five stations on this educational trail and is also protected as a significant landscape feature. This gives the natural site a dual significance: it is part of the protected landscape heritage and part of a route connecting several stations in Horní Domaslavice.
Practical Access to the Educational Trail
The educational trail is easily accessible by bus and car. Parking spaces are available at the entrance near the Church of St. James the Greater. This makes the starting point accessible by various means of transport. When planning a day in Horní Domaslavice, you can therefore treat the educational trail as a focus in its own right and include its five stations without losing sight of the starting point at the church.
Church of St. James the Greater
The Church of St. James the Greater is a late Baroque building constructed between 1739 and 1745. Its history also includes a later turning point: on August 25, 1892, the church and the parish buildings burned down. In 1893, a new parish and church were built, and the tower was restored again. The appearance from that time has been preserved to this day. In 1999, the parish Church of St. James the Greater was declared a cultural monument by a decision of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. Through this sequence of events, the religious building forms part of both the older architectural history and the documented renewal following the fire.
Further Historical Traces
The Chapel of St. Anne also offers a glimpse into the municipality's past. According to tradition, its origins date back to 1654; it later also served as a crypt. Another memorial is the cross near Vidíkov. It bears the year 1863 and presumably commemorates the access to the cemetery at the site of the first wooden church in the municipality, which no longer survives today. This cautious form of attribution is part of the history of the site and should be retained when visiting it.
The historical image of Horní Domaslavice also includes the chateau. It later disappeared and was gradually dismantled. It is precisely through the interplay of the preserved church, chapel, cross, and the stations of the educational trail that it becomes clear that the municipality preserves its history not only in a single building. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore consider whether you would like to make the cycling routes, the educational trail, or the historic stations the main focus of your stay.
