Accommodation in Frýdlant Nad Ostravicí
Frýdlant nad Ostravicí lies in the Ostravice Valley below Lysá hora and forms a gateway to these mountains at the foot of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids. The town combines nature experiences along the river with cycling paths, educational trails, churches, and an unusually prominent industrial history. This creates a varied way for you to explore the town: short routes through nature and the landscape are complemented by cultural tours and historic buildings.
Nature trails along the Ostravice
The Lesní stezka Vyhlídka is 1 km long, has eight stations, and focuses on the local nature and wildlife. It can be reached directly by car or on foot in approximately 10 to 15 minutes from Frýdlant nad Ostravicí railway station. This makes it possible to combine a compact walk with arrival by train, without turning the approximate walking time into a longer hike.
The Naučná stezka Kamenec focuses more closely on the river's surroundings. The 2 km educational trail runs along the banks of the Ostravice and has seven stations covering the history and nature of the area around the river. Its route runs between the Harcovský Bridge and the footbridge in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí towards Lubno. The route thus combines a specific riverside landscape with information about its natural and historical surroundings.
Industrial culture and mobile tours
A prominent theme of the town is the processing of cast iron and enamel. For many years, the Frýdlant nad Ostravicí Tourist Information Centre has organized themed tours entitled “Po stopách frýdlantské litiny a smaltu”. They present the past and present of the industrial sector that was important to the city's development. In addition, the mobile tour “Po stopách frýdlantské litiny a smaltu” is approximately 1 km long and includes nine stations.
The “Galerie uměleckého smaltu a litiny” gallery presents the history of enamel production in Frýdlant as well as historic cast iron from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Ferdiš Duša Memorial is also located in the Frýdlant nad Ostravicí Cultural Centre. A separate mobile offering, “Po frýdlantských sochách”, leads visitors to local sculptures. This allows you to focus your sightseeing on industrial design, historic production, or art in public spaces.
Churches with different historical traces
The Church of St Bartholomew was built between 1672 and 1690 and expanded in the first half of the 18th century. Since 3 May 1958, it has been a protected immovable cultural monument. The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary offers a different historical perspective: it was consecrated on 5 November 1876, built in the Neo-Romanesque style, and decorated with paintings and a wooden ceiling. The chapel also serves visitors as a place for spiritual and cultural needs.
