Frýdek-Místek combines significant landmarks, regional history and experiences in nature. Here, you can trace the development of a city between Frýdek and Místek, visit a basilica steeped in tradition, gain insights into the production of Marlenka honey products or choose a signposted cycle route at the Olešná Reservoir.

Castle, Museum and the History of Frýdek-Místek

Frýdecký zámek is the oldest surviving monument in Frýdek. Its architectural history extends from its Gothic origins to the later Renaissance: the Lords of Vrbno from Bruntál completed the conversion from a Gothic castle into a Renaissance chateau. Frýdecký zámek is also home to the Muzeum Beskyd Frýdek-Místek. The “Frýdek a Místek” exhibition presents Frýdek-Místek as two cities and, at the same time, one city – an apt approach to a place whose history is composed of these two parts.

Another prominent place is the Frýdecká bazilika. It is the only church in its diocese to hold the papal title Basilica minor and has attracted pilgrims since the 17th century. Thus, alongside its castle history, Frýdek-Místek also offers a religious and cultural-historical dimension. The “Beskydy - příroda a lidé” exhibition additionally explores the relationship between nature and human activity.

Marlenka, Tasting and a Manageable Visit Format

The MARLENKA visitor tour offers insights into the production of Marlenka honey products. It also includes a tasting of a selection from the range, including MARLENKA® café. The excursion lasts approximately 70 minutes. This clearly defined format complements the historical sights with a culinary experience and enriches your exploration of the region with a specific speciality.

Forest Trail and Cycle Route at the Olešná Reservoir

For a nature-focused leg, the “Bludné balvany” educational trail runs through the Frýdecký les forest and recalls the Ice Age. The trail thus links the landscape with geological history, while the “Beskydy - příroda a lidé” exhibition focuses on the relationship between nature and human activity. Both topics have different focuses, without requiring you to limit yourself to purely urban sightseeing.

There is also a clearly described option for cycling: the Místecký okruh is a signposted, 9.7-kilometre cycle route that is easy to manage. It starts and ends at the Olešná Reservoir in Frýdek-Místek. Skate rental for the IN-LINE trail is located next to the Olešná Autocamp. At 9.7 kilometres, the circuit remains manageable as a single cycling tour and can easily be planned as a separate outing. Starting and ending at the Olešná Reservoir gives this leg a clear geographical framework. The reservoir complements the castle, basilica and museum with a section focused on cycling.
