Prikry: Landscapes, Culture and Historical Discoveries

Příkrý lies on a steep northwestern slope that descends into the valley of the Vošmenda. The Vošmenda is a tributary of the Jizera.

Hillside Location, Views and Nature Area

From Na Vrších hill near Škodějow, there are views of the ridges of the Krkonoše Mountains, Ještěd and Kozákov. The mountains of Strážník, Pustina, Tábor and Černá Studnice are also located in the surroundings of Příkrý. This means that the focus is not only on individual viewpoints, but on a landscape with several mountains and different points of reference. The different mountain ranges can be incorporated into your daily itinerary as changing viewing directions.

A special addition is the Dr. Karel Farský nature area above the municipality. It includes a forest chapel and an educational trail. The educational trail complements the forest chapel with its own form of exploration, while the view from Na Vrších opens up the landscape.

Škodějow and the History of the Place

One of the notable historical connections is Škodějow: The place was the birthplace of Karel Farský, one of the co-founders of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. The upper wooden bell tower in Příkrý also contains an original bell from the first half of the 18th century. Independently of this, the Škodějow bell tower and the adjacent timbered farmhouse on the municipal road to Háje nad Jizerou form a picturesque rural ensemble.

The listed Cottage No. 64 at Kozí roh also leads into the region's architectural history. It dates from 1869 and is a well-preserved example of the timbered folk architecture of the Podkrkonoší region. The year 1869 thus provides a different historical accent from the original bell dating from the first half of the 18th century. It complements the religious and personal memorial sites with a concrete example of traditional timber construction. The historical monuments also differ in their material form: the bell tower, farmhouse and cottage represent timbered architecture, while the water fortress site is a square earthwork with a former enclosure. The range therefore extends from preserved buildings to a historic terrain structure.

The Škodějow water fortress site has a partially preserved outer rampart in the western part of the village, northwest of House No. 4. It is a square earthwork with side lengths of 18 metres and a former water-filled moat 6 to 12 metres wide.
