Loukov Nad Jizerou – History Between Church and Landscape

Church and Historical Traces

The Church of Saint Stanislaus of Kraków in Loukov is a late Baroque stone church built between 1786 and 1795. The parish church in Loukov is first documented in 1352. The church has four bells: one from the 16th century and three acquired in 1977.

The complex of the Church of Saint Stanislaus in Loukov includes a parish house, barns, and two cemeteries. The old cemetery by the church, which is no longer in use, is enclosed by a low sandstone wall. It includes an octagonal Baroque chapel from the second half of the 18th century and an altar by the sculptor Antonín Sucharda.

Loukov's traditional architecture consists predominantly of wooden houses, wooden granaries, and other agricultural buildings. A large part of the surviving buildings dates from the second half of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century.

The current routing of the Greenway Jizera cycle route, KČT No. 17, is also relevant for planning cycling trips: it runs through Paseky nad Jizerou, Sklenařice, Vysoké nad Jizerou, Škodějov, and Loukov. This route is related to the fact that through access in the Jizera Valley between Horní Sytová and Paseky nad Jizerou is difficult.
