Church Art with Medieval Roots

A prominent cultural landmark is the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in Horní Řasnice. It was originally a Gothic church from the second half of the 13th century and was later rebuilt in the Baroque style. As a result, several eras come together in this building without its medieval origins being lost.

The murals in the nave are particularly noteworthy. An investigation uncovered exceptionally valuable paintings there, which can be dated to the beginning of the 17th century. The Creation of Adam and Eve and the Last Judgment appear in ornament-framed medallions. This gives you a cultural highlight where not only the building itself but also its rediscovered furnishings play a role.

The church association organizes cultural events every year at Easter, Christmas and on Mother's Day. The church also regularly welcomes musical ensembles. These dates add their own accents throughout the year and complement the church's art-historical character with communal cultural events.

Nature between Stream and Forest

Nature in Horní Řasnice can also be explored through specific observations. Kingfishers live along the Řasnice Stream. This striking bird is therefore one of the area's special natural features, without the need for a major attraction.

The Kamenný vrch nature monument is home to 150 to 300 nests of the protected wood ant species Formica polyctena. New colonies develop particularly at the edge of the forest near the former sand pit. This figure combines a precise scale with a clearly identified habitat and makes the nature monument interesting for anyone who likes to look out for smaller, easily overlooked communities of living organisms during an excursion.

Bílá skála offers another point of orientation. There is no path from the road across the terrain; the site is more than 250 metres from the road. This specific note is part of planning a visit and distinguishes the site from freely accessible destinations directly alongside a transport route.

Chapels and Border-Related History

The Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows in Srbská is one of the region's thematic destinations. It was built in 1863 by the childless couple Magdalena and Josef Legler and completed in 1867. The building history has thus been preserved with unusual precision and gives the small religious structure a personal historical background.

The Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows can also be reached from Jindřichovice p/Smrkem – Skanzen railway station. From there, it is accessible after approximately an hour's walk through forest and pastureland. The approximate duration and the landscape along the way describe the access route without equating it with a short visit at a transport stop.

The border crossing to Poland near Srbská is also relevant for cross-border activities. It was restored in the 1990s and has been designated for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists since 1 December 2006.

Finally, a small detail of the local culture of remembrance is an iron cross on a stone pedestal. It stands beneath two mature trees near House No. 79 in Horní Řasnice and adds a quiet, precisely locatable accent to the townscape.
