Sloup V Čechách: Rock Castle, Views and Circular Trails
Sloup V Čechách between the rock castle and circular trails
Sloup V Čechách combines an unusual historical attraction with paths through a distinctive rocky and forested landscape. The main attraction is Sloup Castle, a 13th-century rock fortress. It stands on a sandstone pillar, which gives the town its character. The sandstone pillar is the site of the fortress, while the stairs are carved into the rock. Visiting the castle requires physical fitness, as visitors must climb steep stairs carved into the rock. There is a paid car park at the castle; a bus stop is 400 m away.
Views and trails for different day plans
The Sloupský vyhlídkový okruh is approximately 4 km long. It is marked with information boards and equipped with benches. Along the way, the route passes the Emanuela-Maxa Viewpoint, the Count's Viewpoint, the Castle Viewpoint and the Maximilian Viewpoint. The four viewpoints are located along the same circuit; information boards mark the route, and benches provide places to sit along the way.
A shorter route is the Naučná a interaktivní stezka ve Sloupu v Čechách. It is 2 km long and has five stations. It is primarily intended for parents with small children. At 2 km, it is about half as long as the approximately 4 km Sloupský vyhlídkový okruh. The shorter route has five stations; the other circular trail passes four viewpoints, is marked with information boards and is equipped with benches. It includes the wooden pavilion “Vodní chrám” with a renewed forest spring. The pavilion serves visitors as a place to rest and relax and complements the stations of the interactive educational trail with its own resting place.
The Cikánské údolí s jeskyněmi circular trail was opened in 2005 and begins on Pod Stráží Street. The route follows a footpath along the Dobranovský potok, crosses several footbridges and enters the Cikánské údolí valley. Along the way, it offers unusual views of Sloup Castle. Those wishing to compare different routes will therefore find a trail here with a stream, footbridges and a valley section, alongside the viewpoints of the Sloupský vyhlídkový okruh.
Rock formations and special details of the town
Na Stráži is a 354 m-high rocky spur that drops steeply into the valley of the Dobranovský potok and lies approximately 0.5 km south of Sloup. The town's cultural history is also reflected in unusual rock spaces: at Lesní divadlo, passages were carved into the sandstone. Glasses and telescopes were made in Samuelova jeskyně.
The outdoor swimming pool on the shore of Radvanecký rybník is also part of the townscape.
