Chlum U Dubé: Church, Hiking Trails and Rural Townscape

Chlum U Dubé combines a remarkable village history with marked hiking trails and a predominantly rural townscape. At its centre stands St. George’s Church, whose history dates back to the Middle Ages. St. George’s: History in Several Layers

St. George’s Church is registered in Chlum under registration number 20434/5-2987 as an immovable cultural monument. Its history can be traced back over several centuries. As early as 1293, the church in Chlum was separated from the parish of Bezděz and given its own priest. Its present form was created in 1739; Count Jan Kounic had the church built that year.

The church tower also bears witness to a later change. In 1863, the church received a new tower with a belfry made of sandstone blocks. This replaced an older, dilapidated wooden tower. St. George’s therefore offers not just a single historical reference, but several chronological layers that can be connected when exploring the village.
