Mimoň

Mimoň combines local history, unusual museum collections and various routes leading out to the Ploučnice. This allows you to shape your stay according to different interests: with culture in town, a cycling tour in several lengths or an adventure trail with a medieval theme. Museums of local history and special collections

The Městské muzeum is located in a reconstructed historic building that originally served as a hospital. Its permanent exhibition focuses on the history and nature of Mimoň and its surroundings. One special feature is the mortuary chapel, which has been preserved in its original condition. The grounds also contain a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk.

At the Mimoňské Retromuzeum, the focus is on everyday objects and local economic history. On display are old prams and historic children's items such as dolls, swaddling cloths, rattles, toys, baby clothes and cradles. The museum also preserves memories of former companies from Mimoň, including TON, Severka, Rukavičářské závody and OPMP. For families wishing to explore different generations and themes together, this provides two distinctly different museum profiles: the town’s history and nature at the Městské muzeum, and childhood in the past and regional companies at the Retromuzeum.

Park, church tower and traditional events

Zámecký park is located in the centre of Mimoň and is protected as a heritage site. It complements the museums with a protected place within the townscape. The Catholic Church of Saints Peter and Paul has an observation tower. Popular traditional events include Christmas and Easter climbs of the tower. These events add a distinct seasonal element alongside the museums and park attractions described as available year-round.

Cycling, the Ploučnice and an adventure trail

For a cycling tour, route CV16 Mimoň–Zákupy–Mimoň offers three variants of 39, 29 and 20 kilometres. This allows you to choose between routes of different lengths without changing the route’s starting and return point in Mimoň.

The paddling route on the Ploučnice offers a different perspective. Just before Mimoň, a regulated riverbed with several steps begins. Those who prefer to explore the town on foot and with a historical focus can follow the Stezka po stopách středověku. The adventure trail starts at the information board of the Městské muzeum, follows the Ploučnice to the Mimoň leisure centre and is approximately three kilometres long. The trail has 13 stations in total.
