Prysk – Glass History, Trails and Monuments

Prysk combines a striking valley landscape with a clearly recognizable glassmaking and historical heritage. The town lies in a narrow valley formed by the Pryský potok, enclosed by the steep slopes of the surrounding mountains, and is part of the Lužické hory Protected Landscape Area. This creates a special combination for your stay: you can experience nature, local history and trails without losing sight of the character of a small, independent destination.

An eight-kilometre circular hiking trail runs around Prysk. It offers a clearly defined way to experience the surroundings as a cohesive landscape. Another way to get to know the town is the Meixnerova pohybová stezka. It is 2.5 kilometres long, begins at the municipal office and ends in the centre of Horní Prysk. It includes wooden signposts by Petr Jelínek, a wooden footbridge, climbing areas and information boards.

The Meixnerova stezka also preserves a special historical connection: it follows former glassmakers’ paths and is designed with colourful glass fragments and glass sand. Traditional glassmaking shapes the local character of Prysk and makes the trails more than merely a connection between a starting point and a destination. Church, historic houses and glassmaking tradition

An important monument in Prysk is the Kostel svatého Petra a Pavla church. The Baroque building was erected from 1718 to 1721 on the site of an older church, based on designs by, or under the direction of, the builder Petr Pavel Columbani. In addition, four historic residential buildings in Prysk are listed in the registers of the Czech heritage authority. This means that the town’s history can be read not only in a single building, but also in historic houses.

The cultural character of the town is also shaped by the summer event series “Léto s Pryskem”, held every year in Prysk. It complements the permanently visible traces of the town’s architectural and glassmaking history with a recurring event during the year. The Riedelova jeskyně also adds an unusual highlight.
