Noviny Pod Ralskem

Noviny pod Ralskem lies between the hills of Lipka and Ralsko on both banks of the Ploučnice. As a result, the town brings together a river landscape, marked trails, historical traces and winter routes within a compact geographical area. This gives visitors different points of interest during their stay: you can explore the landscape on foot, discover details of cultural history or take a closer look at one of the described cross-country skiing options.

From the Ploučnice to marked trails

A characteristic point of interest is the underground outlet of the Průrva Ploučnice. It is accessible from the bridge over the Ploučnice on the eastern edge of Noviny pod Ralskem. A red-marked hiking trail runs through the town and has a branch leading to this Průrva. If you would like to place a longer connection in context: the same red-marked hiking trail connects Česká Lípa with Liberec.

For a different route, there is a yellow-marked shortcut that makes it possible to walk around Ralsko. Cyclists also have a specific point of reference: Cycle Route 241 runs through Noviny pod Ralskem. The different markings show that the town is incorporated both into a longer connection and into a shorter loop focused on Ralsko.

Church, local history and traces of fortifications

The Church of the Holy Trinity continues to serve for religious services and cultural events. Its present-day use combines the sacred character of the building with a public cultural role. The town’s history dates back at least to the early modern period: Noviny pod Ralskem was founded sometime after 1400. The first written record dates from 1504; at that time, the town was part of the Stráž estate.

Another historical layer lies in the forests of Ralsko. Within the territory of Noviny pod Ralskem, nineteen light fortification structures of the vzor 37 type were built there between July and September 1938. While hiking through Ralsko, you may also come across unfinished fortification bunkers, excavations and foundation sleeves. Thus, outside the town centre, you can encounter tangible traces of various construction and defence phases.

Protected lime tree and sandstone rocks

On the western edge of the town, a state-protected small-leaved lime tree grows in front of the “U zlaté lípy” restaurant. It forms a single, clearly designated natural point of interest in the town. In addition, Skalka is a wooded islet with sandstone rocks. The two features are clearly different: here, a protected tree on the edge of the town; there, a wooded rocky site.

Cross-country skiing on three different routes

Specific routes are also described for cross-country skiing. A third cross-country skiing route leads from Motorest Zlatá lípa via the Srní potok to Mimoň. The first cross-country skiing loop is prepared on the grass football pitch, is associated with the sports ground there and is suitable for parents with children. It is approximately 400 m long. The grass football pitch in Noviny pod Ralskem is open to the public.

The second cross-country skiing loop leads around Skalka. It starts at the football pitch and is approximately 4.3 km long. The three options described therefore differ in form: a connection via the Srní potok, a loop of approximately 400 m on the football pitch and a loop of approximately 4.3 km around Skalka.
